It nearly goes without saying...if you like space exploration, you like Chess.

I'm setting up a chess tournament open to all UT forum members. This will be played through Yahoo chess.

If you're interested, please post your yahoo ID, a rough estimate of your ability level, and which timezone you're in (if you don't have a yahoo username it's really easy to register). I will seed players according to where they live so that they don't have to play at 3 in the morning. I'll give people plenty of time to respond to this (the competition will probably be in March-April).

Once I've made the tournament structure, I'll open a new pinned topic so that you can see who you're up against, and when the game must be completed by (it will be up to you to get in contact with that person and play the game by a certain date).

count me in too!! I'm alittle to the more advanced side of intermediate. Let's just say, you wont get bored unless you're like a grandmaster or something

I'm in San Fran, California so.....west coast U.S. of A.

I can get a Yahoo user I.D. at anytime but I'm not in the mood right now. So let me know what's up and I'll create it then. For now, my E-mail is:

I think I might be interested in this. I'm in the UK.

I used to play on Yahoo chess quite a lot, before my account got hacked/deleted or something...

The highest I got my yahoo rating was something like 1650-1700 or something like that... but that was when I played a lot. Now though, I'll probably be lucky to be near the 1500 rating on the Yahoo scale.

With my old account gone I'll use this one: kris_wojciechowski

Out of interest, once you have posted who is playing who, how long will we have to play the games? Cause I have an active out of work life with several hobbies in the evenings!!!

And what time limit will the games be? Time increment per move?

I also know a bit of chess  but this is a general virus warning against a virus I got from American parliament. What that is all about those virus protections, well you can never open them because they are infected. Now I have few other things to do on internet, in fact what I have against Fraser's forum is that you can't reply on messages departing from your emailbox. I'll try to find a solution. One of my brothers hazardly is informatics engaged.

Does anybody among you think there exist already scull guns? (see nanotechnologic sf)

At times in the past, when I was angry or upset, I've been subconsciously brilliant. Which means, I win and I don't know why. But I've been pretty mellow for a long time now, so I probably haven't got a chance. Why not?

:( This will probably be the only post I ever leave here as I´m completely ignorant of the rules of chess as well as the movements of the pieces (thou I do know 2 or 3!). I´d really love to take part but it will be totally impossible! :(

But I really love space exploration!!! :D

When will the next chess competition be held? I'd like to compete if there's a second competition. I live in Malaysia which is located in the South Eastern part of Asia. Though I'm not sure what my time zone is.

E-Mail: Ultralisk2004@yahoo.com :D
Experience Level: Low/weakling/unexperienced

(P.S. How do I add a picture under my name?)

Darth Vader, click on your name, click on avatar options, follow instructions.

You can choose one from a list, from a URL, or upload one of your own from your computer.

Not enough interest has been shown in this to start up a competition as of yet.

I'd sign up but I'm not that great of a player-I can't strategize that well :(
Comes with practice I guess.

Hi Kashi,
A chess tournament sounds like great fun. I am an intermediate skill player ( fourth out of two thousand in a tournament over here) in the U.K. (GMT). I have a 752 kps connection and would like to take part. My yahoo I.D. is jsc248.

I love chess (though I'm not that great) and I'd like to take part - but I have no Yahoo ID and live in the UK so timing might be hard as I have work and 4 kids to work around!

Oh, and reading Universe Today!

I hadn't noticed this before and I hope I'm not to late!
I play chess a lot! I mean I play in tournaments regularly. In fact I just played the 4th round of a local club tournament last night. I won! Yupee!
I dont have a Yahoo ID because I dont play chess on the net for reasons of sanity.
But for anyone interested I am a 1.e4 addict. Against 1. e4 I will play symetrical (1. ...e5) and take any thing thrown at me, and against 1. d4 I will go for a Kings Indian set up unless my opponent plays 2. Nc3.
If anyones still up for a game e-mail me or PM me through UT. ;)
