You could try a WYSIG editor. Like Frontpage or Dreamweaver.

Building a website is actually a pretty complex process, but if you just start at the beginning and work through the technologies one at a time, it can make sense. The best thing to do is have a goal, some reason why you're making the website. That gives you a reason to plug away it - I was a pretty mediocre developer before I started working on Universe Today.
I do suggest http://www.sitepoint.com as a great place to get started. Especially take a look at their forums. They have lots of beginner tutorials to get you started.

I highly recommend you buy a book like the Visual QuickStart Guide To HTML or Learn HTML in 24 Hours. HTML is pretty easy and straightforward. Don't use Dreamweaver unless you know what you're doing :)

If you are poor or stingy, and don't mind adds, I recommend signing up to Lycos (http://www.lycos.com/), you get access to a free online editor at Tripod (http://www.tripod.lycos.com/)
The online editor is called Trellix, and if you get frontpage, you can upload you pages to your existing site. It should work with dreamweaver as well, though I haven't tried.
There is a link to Webmonkey (http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/reference/html_cheatsheet/), in particular, to a HTML cheatsheet.
I have been editing my website for about 4 years. I am just now starting to use html.
You may find This UT Discussion (http://www.universetoday.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1317&hl=) interesting. I managed to get the Solstation (http://solstation.com/map27ly.htm) Java applet map on my web page. ( A must, I think for anyone interested in the distences between the nearest stars)

I'll give you the easiest way.
You track down the nearest eleven year old child, possibly using a trail of m&m's and snickers with a box cleverly located at the end to ensnare the child from running back to sit in front of the tv...
Then with large amounts of soda/potato chips/staying up late/newest x-box games you bribe them into making it for you using such technical language like
"I want that thing to look like it's over there"
and
"The blinking thing. YES! THAT BLINKING...what did you do?"
Then you sit back and marvel at technology, and the fact that an eleven year old knows C++ and you still need to use a calculator to figure out sales tax on milk.
At this point you may cry, but many people choose to drink heavily.

ROTFLMAO Graceless  I think I'll just skip all that and go straight to the drinking heavily stage :D

Wow, that is exactly how I got Universe Today off the ground.

What, from drinking heavily, Fraser? Yes, I've found alcohol to be an excellent inducement to action.
