Today, the senior students at the school where I work at were delivering a lot of happiness and a few red faces to students and teachers alike.

I was innocently warping the fragile minds of my 7th grade special education students - when a group of seniors came and sang 'It must be love' to me ! from not 1 secret admirer but a 'consortium'

Needless to say i am flattered, even if they were my students stressing about their tesat next week fishing for an A

Well the ancient Roman feast of Lupercalis was celebrated on Feb. 15 and the feast day of Saint Valentine (Feb 14) so the two might have over time been celebrated together. With St. Valentine being the patron staint of lovers you get Valentines Day.

And the patron saint of students singing to their teacher trying to getr A's - am I cynical or what??

And with the heathen holiday designed to ensure that everyone without a significant other feels obliged to spend it at home in shame and disgust....

A happy Valentines Day to you all. May those of you without someone beside you know that love exists for you, and for those that do, may you understand how deeply it flows.

Yamas!

I lie somewhere in that scale...but it's all mine and I wouldn't have it any other way.

matthew, I didn't know that...

The story, as I understand it, is that many moons ago (God knows when) Valentine was incarcerated for encouraging lovers in some way or other at a time when such activity was prohibited. I seem to remember being told that he would also write love letters from his prison cell.

When they made him a saint, I daresay the church just replaced the heathen Roman ceremony with their own, just as they did with Christmas.
