The eye of the beholder

All cleverly worded phrases to describe telescopes aside, I would like to know what you guys use to view those gems of the night sky with. I'm considering saving up for a Celestron NexStar 5i, or buying a cheaper($459USD) telescope. I'd like a few opinions on people who've used a variety of telescopes.

annnnnnnnnnnnnnd... now that I managed to find the section, I believe I may have opened my mouth without taking in all the info available to me first. More proof that there are no stupid questions, just stupid people asking questions
