Hey there folks, in a couple of days from this post, I will be visiting Melbourne (no, not to see Josh [pffft], Faulkner, Kashi etc - although it'd be nice) but to see my folks who live there and to:

attend a funeral
go to 2 interviews (one academic, one for a new job)
give several speeches, (including for my grandparents combined 80th party)
and for a check up, to make sure an old demon has not returned (cancer)

its gonna be a busy 2 weeks - with bbq's parties, video nights etc as well....

wish me luck, a lot could change as a result of these events

Hi everyone,

I'd just like to let you all know that I'm going to be driving down the steet tomorrow at around 3:06 pm AEST to buy some milk. I will then be returning to my house at around 3:13 pm.

Kashi

ROFLMAO Kashi

but I just wanted to let folks know why i will be largely quiet for two weeks and get some good vibes as i am nervous particularly about the interviews and the checkup (i hope i am not sick again)

damienpaul
24-June-2004, 06:25 AM
well kashi, I hope you get the well wishing emails that I have received for your milk-getting-journey.

So Kashi, hows the Milk run? did you get it?

Good luck if you haven't yet.

Hi GG, maybe Kashi could grab you some aspro-clear while he's down there, at the 7-11, getting some milk :)

Don't mind do ya Kashi? thought not.

How is the crime kingdom at the moment, oh how I miss that grey city. It was only youth gangs when I was there, in the early 90s, chapel street lost it's charm when Morticias moved, and Chasers closed down, but I hear the lizard lounge is still going, and the punters club and the Espy! God the melbourne scene had it all over Sydney.

I was just suggesting to Damo that he watch some star trek with you and Josh, have you got it yet Kashi, Startrek, I mean. Mad show.

Damo, if you freek out, catch a tram to Richmond, there are a number of lovely pubs that have fire places, very cosy. I wish I was there :(

But I am haveing a lovely time watching the snow fall on the Brindabellas :D

You should drop by, Canberra is an Astronomy Town, one pub here has a plantarium in it, MAD!

Stromlo is still a wreck, from what I hear, and I haven't made it out to Tidbinbilla (Deep Space Network) Yet, Or sliding springs, but I think that is a bit further out.

Any way,

GOOD LUCK
:) :) :) :)

I could certainly use some of that... lol

Good luck in Melbourne Damo!

And Kashi, good luck getting the milk...

I wish you the same kind of luck our soccer team had yesterday in Portugal (thanks to the Czech Republic!).

Damien,

I wish you all the best.

You will be in my prayers.

Time spent with parents and grandparents is time well invested. Life is short.

I have never been "down under", but hope to one day. I have great admiration and respect for Professor Barry Ninham at ANU.

In 1963 Barry proposed that Bose-Einstein condensation might convert iron-rich supernova debris into a superfluid, superconductor.

That is the basis for our paper, "Superfluidity in the Solar Interior: Implications for Solar Eruptions and Climate" [J. Fusion Energy 21, 193-198 (2003)]

http://www.umr.edu/~om/abstracts2003/jfe-s...perfluidity.pdf (http://www.umr.edu/~om/abstracts2003/jfe-superfluidity.pdf)
http://www.umr.edu/~om/abstracts2003/jfe-s...uperfluidity.ps (http://www.umr.edu/~om/abstracts2003/jfe-superfluidity.ps)

Go in peace.

With kind regards,

Oliver

hahahahahahah...that's a classic.

Damien's trip to Melbourne has evolved into a discussion about milk, and iron-rich supernova debris.

I'll just be going down to the shop to pick myself up some of that too!

Cheerio.

Sounds like Zepher is missing the pubs more than the city  What is aspo-clear?

Hey Damo, good luck on all fronts. Crappy that you are attending for a funeral, but it gets you togeather with all your family so you can remember all the reasons you left them behind in the first place!

Seriously though, I'll ask the wife to put a word in for you in her prayers. She says she has a direct line or something.

Oliver, shame on you.

And, like Oliver, we wish Damo all the very best - yes, God's blessing.

I so glad you got a clean bill of heath & that your cancer hasn´t returned to haunt you.

I´d have wished you a lot of good luck but I only stumbled across your post of the 24th June a couple of minutes ago. I felt bad about it for a moment, not having wished you good luck earlier I mean, but on reaching the end of the second page I see you´ve had your medical examination & I immediately felt better that you´ve been given the all clear! :) Hope you have as much success in your interview for the teaching post. :)

Hope to see your posts again soon. Good luck!

Josh and Matthew are both Melbournians. There are lots of others who don't contribute as much.

7.7% of Universe Today subscribers are from Australia compared with 59.9% from the US. When you consider population, Australia has the highest number of subscribers per capita.

jimmy
09-July-2004, 07:17 PM
Weasel, what does "Poms" stand for?
Chook, it's funny you should use toe term Yanks for us. Especially since those of us Confederate (rebels) from the southern U.S. got our butts kicked by the Union (yankees) soldiers in the Civil War.

VanderL
09-July-2004, 08:25 PM
Gee,

Haven't checked this thread for a while, great news Damien, "cheers".
The Aussies might not be the largest group on the UT forum, but surely the "loudest".

And now we're in the "country poll", Yanks, Poms (indeed where does that word come from), Aussies, and of course Dutch. As far as I can tell there was only one other Dutch guy posting, but that was a while ago and I can't find the thread he responded to. Oh. and where are the other Canadians besides Fraser?
Anyway, Damien, you need any more luck?

Cheers.

Weaselbunny
10-July-2004, 04:22 PM
Poms (short for pommies) i think comes from the french for apples, pommes.

But what the crazy Aussie logic is for applying it to the brits I've no idea. Probably some history thing like the 'Yanks' calling us Limeys (the whole scurvy thing, ya know).

VanderL, have you come accross Isferno? I believe he may be dutch. Clever guy, likes logic problems and maths. ;)

Slightly off topic, please turn a blind eye moderators  (Jimmy, any news on the music yet, or are you still busy busy busy?)

To stay on topic: Good Luck Again Damo!
Oh by the way Weasel ;) , both VanderL and I have tried to contact Fraser about the song and we got no response, so I think it means we should just let it "simmer"(Chook's words) for now.
I am still pretty busy though: gigs Thur. Fri, Sat, and Sun.
Sorry, I should have been in better contact. :(

About myself: I go to a Dutch forum, I call that living nowadays. It has not too much sense overhere, there is a lot of critics on my language but in fact I would like to read or study a booklet "Teach yourself vocabulary" at this moment (always lack of money, I :P never drink, nor :P smoke and never :P take any medecine but this makes  it all more complicated I fear). And further, what example do we Belgians get :( on the telly in fact. I have no television but remember the series "Sam" in 1974, they said "bloody" or "bloody pig" about every two sentences. I'm thus Flemish Belgian and it was quite crazy to meet you, pity that religion is not such a welcome topic on this board!

Iwrite adverts for Radio, and I've been working for a group of small stations. I've loved it and it was my first job in this field. Great people, boss tells us off if we're not messing around enough! B)

Then a bigger, richer and more powerful group heard about me and one day, out of nowhere, I got a phone call. They came and dangled a bigger wad of cash in front of me... they seemed a fun bunch, so that was pretty much that. ;)

How did yours go Dips, have you heard back yet B)
