You know at my school Im the only one who cares about space (that includes science teachers!) If I tell my friends something about space, ten minutes later they forgot what I said. Why are all space enthusiasts spread so far apart? (I know there are other space nuts out there:) I live in Indiana and everyone I nkow that likes space as much as me is on this forum. Thats sad...

While typing, Im holding my baby niece (18 months) shes trying to poke my eyes out!) and Im going to make a bigger space nut than everyon on this forum(like thats possible...). What about all of you? You goin to teach your kids to be a space nut.

P.S. Babies are a pain in the ***! Im only 14 and I know Im not having kids. She picks on no one but me! I dont know how my mom did it...

LOL Have you looked into any local astronomical societies? Maybe you could start your own astronomy and space club at school?

I'd start with your astronomical society. You'll be able to hook up with skygazers; although, they aren't always interested in space exploration. You can also try your nearby sci-fi book store. I used to work in one, and that's how I recruited many of my current friends. See where your nearest chapter of the Mars Society is, join up with them. Also, many universities have SEDS groups, so you might be able to hook up with them.

Unless you're lucky, you're probably going to need to stretch out a bit ot find the space fans, but they're out there.

To answer the question about kids...

I don't have any yet. And I don't plan to till I can move out of the city. I believe kids need to be able to see the stars and learn to be dreamers, they are the ones who have the vision to make a difference.

So yes, even if it's just to gaze at the stars and wonder, I plan to encourage my kids to love space.

Hands up everyone who, after watching Pinochio for the first time, looked out their bedroom window and wished on a star.

well not so full of crap, Weaselbunny, I have just become a volunteer for the Make a Wish Foundation here in Alice Springs, and lo and behold one of the kids wants to meet an astronomer and to see the planets and stars....some dreams can become reality

Well Dippy, maybe I could start an astronomy club at school, but who would join? Im seriuos in saying Ive never met someone who likes astronomy as much as me. I dont know if thats saying more about me or my friends... And fraser , ive never actually looked for an astronmical society, but that would be a good place to look for other people into space (DUH, why didnt I think of that!). Yeah Im going to move out of the city too. I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. Damien, I think I feel a tear coming...

I think it partly depends on how you promote it too... if people aren't aware of it, they're not going to join :) How many are in your school?

Well im switching from the middle school to the high school (Im on summer vacation right now) but Id say about 2000 people and growing.
