My favorite Science Fiction Theme Song must be the song entitlaed "The Stargate Overture", the main theme from the Stargate Movie, not the show. Though I'll admit I didn't like some of David Arnold's other works (Independence Day, James Bond, ect.), in "Stargate" he really out done himself. In my very hummble opinion, the Stargate Overture is one of the single greatest songs ever conceived, rivaling even the ninth synphonie. Arnold mixes great Eygptian Themes like "The Ten Commandments", with classical space opreas like "Star Wars." What's your favorite?

I'm stuck on Also Sprach Zarathustra, the opening piece used in Kubrick's 2001, A Space Odessy. But the Babylon 5 soundtrack was really good too.

Toto's "Dune" soundtrack, it's the only SciFi soundtrack I actually own.
2001 was a much better movie, it's just that the music is not original.

Cheers.

Ooooh oooh oohh LOL

If you listen to the opening titles of the later Star Wars films in super duper bass-boost stereophonic surruond sound, it's the dog's proverbials!!

In terms of actual musical compositions, I like the following (in no particular order): Also Sprach Zarasthusa (sic?), the Blue Danube (actually not taken seriously until 2001), Star Trek Voyager theme, the theme to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the *entire* soundtrack for Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (superb!) and the soundtrack to Blade Runner (also superb)

RE the 2001 soundtrack... as you're probably aware, writers and film-makers use a temp soundtrack of music that's been around for awhile so the score-writer has an idea of what to compose. It also helps during the editing stage. Someone *was* hired to write a score for 2001 but Kubrick liked his temp soundtrack and decided to keep it :)

Hands down is the Babylon 5 opening theme for the last two years of the series, followed closely by the CRUSADE theme, which had an altogether different feel from the B5 theme. A close third is the music from THE STAND (TV version). Honorable mentions go to Earth: Final Conflict and FARSCAPE.

My least favorite is the theme to Star Trek: Enterprise. :(

Wonderful playing through those memories! While I greatly enjoy the Star Wars music, the music and movie from 2001 keeps standing out in my head. Still, rarely far from thought is that wonderfully weird electronics from Forbidden Planet. Its one of those films like Magnificent Seven and Casablanca that are a constant comfort and pleasure to me. If I could only keep three films in my video library, it would be these latter three.

The Main Theme from Star Trek: Voyager is a really nice peice too. And has anyone ever heard the United Federation of Planets' Anthem from the DS9 episode: "Take me out to the Holosuite?" They should make a longer, louder, and more complex version of it.

I like music from both the Stargate movie and the TV show. The show Roswell also has a nice soundtrack.

I can't stand the theme from Stargate SG-1. It's very boring and diatonic. I don't think any of the sci-fi themes are particularly good. Check out Ennio Moricone's work in films like 'The Magnificent Seven', 'Cinema Paridiso', and 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'.

I'm with Galaxygirl and vote for the Stargate film and TV series theme. Both really good and I get a thrill running up my spine. Now all I have to do is catch it and I can see what it looks like!
