SN 2004dj has now been determined to be a type II supernova. It may remain relatively bright through September.

There's a finder chart for SN 2004dj available now at http://www.aavso.org/cgi-bin/shrinkwrap.pl.../SN2004DJ-E.JPG (http://www.aavso.org/cgi-bin/shrinkwrap.pl?path=/charts/CAM/SN2004DJ/SN2004DJ-E.JPG) and a reversed chart at http://www.aavso.org/cgi-bin/shrinkwrap.pl...SN2004DJ-ER.JPG (http://www.aavso.org/cgi-bin/shrinkwrap.pl?path=/charts/CAM/SN2004DJ/SN2004DJ-ER.JPG)

Unfortunately, NGC 2403 is not currently well placed prior to moonrise.

Great work, Dave....90mm pulls it in? You've got me going.

I owe you this in return..

Go to www.astroalex.com

Click on the yellow highlighted "UC Berkeley Supernova Search at Lick Obs".

Then scroll all the way down to the listings by year. 395 supernovae are listed there covering the years 1998 to the present...complete with recession speeds
and where to look...Most, however, are between mag 16 and 19 but others aren't.

Here's another good supernova web site:

http://www.rochesterastronomy.org/snimages/

I've observed over 50 supernovae. I find them the most interesting (and extreme) of the variable stars.

What type of scope are you using?

A friend has a 20 in. Obsession. I think that should bring in a number of them.
But this latest let's my ETX90 into the scene.

Well, I've used a variety of telescopes over the years for supernova observations but the one I've used most often is the ASH 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain - http://www.astrohbg.org/gallery2/Tour-of-N...-Naylor/17_inch (http://www.astrohbg.org/gallery2/Tour-of-Naylor/17_inch)

So is there any word from SNO or AMANDA or Super-K regarding neutrino readings, or is 2004dj too far off for us to detect it meaninfully this way?
