The big move

Well folks, its barely 22-23 days until the big move

I have sent my belongings by post to a friends house for storage (working out to be far cheaper than any other method); sold all the furniture etc...it has begun

I'll be traveling over 2000km from Alice Springs in central Australia to a town 250km north of Melbourne, by the Ghan and Overland trains. For me this is a 'homecoming' after almost 2 years living in the Outback - the person going back on the 17th December, 2004 is not the person who was teh person who moved away rom Melbourne (where i lived off and on for 23 years) on the 3rd of January, 2003.

The train journey will take 32 hours in total and will be quite an adventure in itself.

Then, 2005 marks the beginning of my new position (more senior than here in Alice Springs) and then the new adventure will really begin...

Wow, I wasn't aware that there was a train connecting Melbourne and Alice Springs. Lots of countryside on the way indeed. Does it go via Adelaide?

I depart, midday 16th December in Australian CST (GMT +9.5 hours)

and arrive at my parents house at 11:00pm 17th December...

Yes, Kashi, I'll be taking the Ghan to Adelaide and the Overland to Melbourne (these trains have been publicised a lot recently)
