I'm going on a mission to Mars!!! Would you like to help me, or come with me???
There are five available spaces (I hope) and so I am giving you, the wonderful people of Universe Today, the first pick!!!

Do you want to come?

Reply with the reasons why you should be chosen, and you may be in luck.

(ps: terms and conditions apply)

Hmm, it would be quite interesting I'm sure. Yes, ok, I'll join your mission (although it's probably non existant! :D )

My reason: I think we could stop off at the moon on the way and grab a chunck of cheese to nibble on the way (I hope this is the type of answer you want!)

Would anyone else care to join us (I wouldn't like to be left all alone with spacefreak2!

Spacefreak. I would love to know your plans on getting to Mars. Please tell us all more....then I will decide if I'm with you and Rigel on the mission.
Could you also tell us a bit more about yourself like how old you are and what you do. I know a trip to Mars would be along journey and you seem a little freaky!

eyeinthesky77
24-November-2004, 01:36 PM
Spacefreak, I just read your message to Chook so I know a bit more about yourself. Just need to know how you intend on getting there?

Spacefreak2

In a spaceship of course, eyeinthesky77!!! I thought that's simple space knwlege that someone as informed as you should know!!!!!! Space makes your brain go wild doesn't it? so............. there you go.

You can join me if you want, me the Rigel thing and the kashi thing - we'll have a lot of fun and visit interesting places.

There's still 1 place left!!!!! Someone join us quickly or time will run out and the rocket ship won't launch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:)  :) :) :)

When I was in high school I had to design a project like this. I chose to go to an ice moon orbiting the gas giant around 47 Ursae Majoris. It was a lot of fun.

Someone get out of the space ship NOOOOOOOOOOOOWW!!!!!!!

eyeinthesky77 I thknk you should get out because space makes your brain go wild so when we're up in space you may panic................

Is Mars hot or cold?

OK you people who are thinking about this trip. Consider this, you'll be on a ship with a newly married couple, who want only to be "served hand and foot" by unsuspecting space enthusiasts. Did I mention that they would be on Honeymoon?
Who knows where that spaceship will land? No, not me! No way! Sorry! :P

Chook
26-November-2004, 05:38 AM
Hmmmm .....

I wonder what weightless love will be like? Sigh .............

Of course we will have to work, fellow travellers, in order to maintain bone density.

(Don't take any notice of Jimmy - he's just jealous because we wouldn't let him come with his guitar. No place for it.)

I've decided that there may well be room for everyone on this mission, as I have just built a small extension onto the left side of the rocket. It may get a little bit cramped, but who cares, we're going to Mars!!!!!!!

By the way, me and Chook get the back seat.

I don't kow how hot mars is. Who cares???

So everyone who wants to come along, be outside your door, at midnight in your country, and a portkey will appear, ready to transport you off to my rocket,
"THE SOLAR SPECTRUM 3"
Named after Mr Solar Spectrum, my uncle.

So don't forget, you need to be standing by your front door, with a flashlamp in your hands at midnight!!!!!!!

Everyone happy with these arrangemants???

does your ship have a cuppacino maker and will there be videos of monty python?

eyeinthesky77
26-November-2004, 07:23 PM
Im all packed and ready to go. I have my wooley hat and gloves as Mars is cold.
See you all at midnight.

PS, I have packed enough munchies for the trip. Hope everyone loves pringles!!!!

Chook
27-November-2004, 11:01 AM
"me and Chook get the back seat." Hmmm........ Nice!

Now no turning around eyeinthesky77, Notre Dame, Jimmy, Calamity Jane, Janice and Ola D.

Now where's Spacemad? (Don't tell me he's shot through to Spain again! :o )

We will all be comfortably strapped down for take-off, with provision for refreshments later on. Right Spacefreak2?

Notre Dame's beard will be restrained from flying around the cabin via sturdy special velcro straps fastened to the cabin roof. His three pair of glasses will be stored in his inside coat pockets. Anything else for ND? B)

Ahem ... Spacefreak2 - I hope we have a (whisper) toilet in "THE SOLAR SPECTRUM 3"? (I'm getting Take-off nerves.)

Have we got our Space-map and compass ready?

Well - I'm just about ready. How about everybody else? ;)

PS - The luggage compartment may be a bit chilly for you Starlab; but it'll be beaut to store the grog in. Wouldn't mind one now, actually. Who's got the scotch?

Pass the beard, ND ... :D  :P

27-November-2004, 09:09 PM
Don't worry, StarLab, you can borrow my eletric blanket if you like. I'm bringing it with me - everyone seems to be complainig about the cold temprature.

I just hope this extension you've made is big enough to hold all of us, spacefreak2 or ther'll be a bit of a problem and none of us will want to get in the way of the honeymooners.........

I'll see you all at midnight then.........

We NEED you on board, Antoniseb!

We need to know how to stop the grog from freezing; we need your scientific guidance; and we need someone to shepherd Janice and Calamity Jane from calamities.

We suspect this is going to be long, but fun, honeymoon/journey. How long will it take to get to Mars if our ship can get up to the speed of 1,000 miles per hour, and how much petrol will we need? (Better not forget a few litres of spare oil and some brake fluid!)

When Jimmy plays his guitar in weightlessness will the sounds travel through space as usual?

Gee there are some interesting questions eh! :D

OK - now let’s get organized…

Our Personnel, at the moment, are (in alphabetical order):
Antoniseb,
Calamity Jane
Chook
Janice
Jimmy,
Notre Dame
Ola D
Rigel
SpaceFreak2
StarLab

The SOLAR SPECTRUM 3 Spaceship needs a specialized crew –

Project Director - Top Dog Chief
Pilot - to pilot the SS3
Co-pilot/Engineer - relief Pilot and fix buggered gear
Navigator - to tell us where to steer
Communications /Electronics Technician - “Sparks” in charge of computers
Scientist - “Mr. Spock”, to guide us, scientifically, through this adventure.
Agronomist - to grow the tucker we’re going to eat.
Domestic Technician - Cook, Cleaner and Bottle-washer

Spacefreak2, creating this Project, is Project Director.
I nominate: Antoniseb as Scientist; and Notre Dame as Navigator. Accepted? All other positions are open for nomination.

Other questions need answering – what other supplies are needed beside grog, food and mylar to get us to Mars?

Let’s go – time is running out before Count-Down.

And you call yourselves space hoppers :(

CHOOOOK!! Save me from these people - they've made a band up and it makes my ears hurt.

DID I SAY THIS WAS A BOOZE CRUIZE?

Sober up all of you and take this mission serious.

We'll have to give it another bash on Monday night because I'm going to pluto this evening but that's another matter.

Actually no. I've never done this sort of thing before, and did wait on my porch for eleven hours, but came in when it started sleeting. During that time we had no idea where you were, or whether you were ever coming back. If you had said when to be waiting, that would have been fine, but as it was I think we should perhaps trade apologies and move on.

Also, if you don't have enough port keys [a new technical term to me], perhaps I can ride through the gate in Damo's beard.

Concerning alcohol, I also lead a dry lifestyle. Perhaps it'll be good as supplimental fuel. It was said that it would be for medicinal purposes only. I took them at their word.

Concerning the band, we'll get better through constant practice. We could use some precussion, do you have a drum or tamberine?

Betelgeuse
28-November-2004, 01:32 PM
Yes, spacefreak2, I was on my porch, too. Perhaps you have a broken "port key"......

Ola D.
28-November-2004, 03:20 PM
Uhh.. I waited all day long for the "port key" .. or whatever it is :P
But sorry nothing appeared. Seems you lost your way!

Are you having a band? I'll bring along my violin! Don't worry it'll not take any space.. i'll fold it ^_^ Anton, no need for drums, we can use the fuel pipes, just bring along some sticks!

So, Commander Spacefreak can you provide us with your weekly spaceflights schedule?

jimmy
28-November-2004, 03:26 PM
OK, I apologise, I wasn't on my porch, but I have a good excuse. I also have a bad memory, so I forgot what that excuse is.
Anyway, I agree with Chook's nominations. Also, I'd like to apply for the highly esteemed position of garbage technician-musical director! I'll have my resume all typed up and packed in Notre dame's beard.
Anton, I did take the liberty of packing various percussion instruments, so don't worry.....at least not about that(there'l lots to worry about besides that like: We'l be taking off soon and the Project Director is never to be found, the navigator can't find anything(including house keys) and his beard is our cargo bay, complete with hunchback, all the beloved Bridegroom has in his mind is grog and space sex...see what I mean. I'm getting a little worried, but I'm still in!

P.S. Chook, I think the missus is a little upset with you.

StarLab
28-November-2004, 05:02 PM
Oh, yeah, I was on my porch too, but it was raining so the connection got severed...somehow, though, my clarinet made it onto the ship...

Anyways, I looked at a diagram of the ship's orbital path...apparently spacefreak and eyesky are going to miss Mars by a few thousand kilometers...they'll be slingshotted around Mars and back to earth :o ...how amusing...  :P :D ;) B)

28-November-2004, 06:53 PM
(Gee, Spacefreak2, you know how us fellas are when we are about to honeymoon - just can't wait!!! ;) So I shot straight to SS3 and was waiting for you there.)

The band ... we have trumpet, clarinet, guitar, violin and percussion - and that other exotic instrument Antoniseb was bringing along.

We need a Medical Doctor - and I happen to remember that Random63 practiced Medicine before joining NASA. Maybe he could be Seconded over to our Mars program.

A medical doctor will be required, during the two-year journey, to maintain the health of the crew, as well as monitoring the effects of prolonged space travel.

He will have to bring along with him remedies for common ailments like coughs, colds, sore holes and pimples on the nose - as well as performing the more serious diagnost tests such as Papaniceleau tests, mammograms, blood tests and sperm-counts. Hope none of us get travel sickness, vertigo, or the Dreaded Lurgy.

Could our Communications Officer please contact Dr. Random63 to ascertain his availability please.

OK Project Director Spacefreak2 - Over and out. :D

We need to think of who gets what job on board the ship. So lets start thinking.....

We need a,

Pilot ; Eye in the Sky already has that job
Air Hostess (we need 2)
Leaf Sweeper
Entertainment Man (must be pretty camp)
Entertainment Woman
Cabaret Singer
Second Pilot
Reindeer Whipper (I've decided we'll use reindeer instead of fuel to pull the spaceship-it adds a christmasy feel dontcha think)
Beard trimmer (for Damien Paul)
Hammerer
Hammock Builder,
and of course a
Chocolate specialist for when we get to Mars (Chocolate-Mars:get it?)

By the way, I'm of course the project manager. So who's up for which job????

Well, bride-to-be - this is a great start to a life of committed partnership. I think it would be a better option, under the circumstances, if I devote my life to serving others and absolute celebacy.

There are other good and stout men on this voyage who would welcome your feline attention - Antoniseb, Damienpaul (aka Notre Dame) chief amongst them - so I will defer.

(BTW That sheila living in the Mars crater would be too hot for me. What did you say would be the ambient temperature there? Antoniseb would know; and "genuflect" means to bend the knees and bow in a servile manner.)

I wouldn't know, but I could look it up. I'd guess about -60C give or take 30 degrees C.
