Hi all:

I want to mount my SLR directly to the Celestron CG-5 Computerized Mount (no telescope). Do I need a special mounting adaptor to do this using the 1/4" tripod thread on the SLR camera bottom?

If so, any online vendors that sell such an adaptor?

Many thanks,

Tony.

I attach my SLR to my CG5 Mount using the dovetail and the mounting rings-but without a telescope- for 15 -20 second images.

(Much beyond that anyway there is a sky glow problem-particularly at ISO 800 or ISO 1600.

In other words use the dovetail with rings and just thread the camera onto the standard supplied camera mounting screw ..hope this is clear.

I use a single counter weight.

BTW if you decide to leave the scope in, you can hook up a webcam or LPI and using the reticle in K3CCD, you can manually guide the scope even if your polar alignment is not perfect. I do find though that in suburban locations anything much above 30 seconds starts getting really badly affected by skyglow.

I use a clamp off my drum kit :D i put a bolt that fits the standard camera thread on one end and attach the other to a suitable place on the mount

Re: seeker372011: "using the dovetail and the mounting rings" - are these additonal accessories that have to be purchased for the CG-5 ? If you have a link that shows the accessories, that would be awesome. I'm not 100% sure what I should be looking for. Many thanks.

sorry I assumed that when you purchased the CG5 mount you purchased the scope, and the mounting brackets and dovetail that go with it...

http://www.celestron.com/prod_pgs/tel/c8ngt.htm

I am not sure where you can buy these -try your Celestron dealer- but Orion

http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/...iProductID=6842 (http://www.telescope.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=6842&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=6&iSubCat=24&iProductID=6842)

sells something that looks like it will meet your need.

problem is unless you live in the US, Orion dont ship internationally

Hope this helps

Hi there - that mount from Orion looks like the right thing. It looks like the mount screws into the SLR tripod mount and then the mount/SLR slide onto the CG-5 mount.

I also know Ken at http://www.kendauzat.net/ has custom SLR mounts.

Thanks again,

Tony.
