After teaching the ASH introductory astronomy class on galaxies and cosmology last night, I did some observing with the class and some fellow ASH members using the 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain under partly to mostly cloudy skies. However, the seeing was quite good and Jupiter's Great Red Spot was revealed quite nicely at 202 and 259x as it approached a transit of the central meridian at 2:18 UT. We also viewed the Moon at 162 and 259x but the naked-eye view was perhaps more interesting this time around as a distinct 22 degree lunar halo was visible.
