After the last monthly meeting of Highlands Astronomical Society (http://www.spacegazer.com/) I thought I would try out something I learned from the Astrophotography Panel.
I noticed one of the guys had a special eyepiece adapter to fit his digital camera on. I purchased one for the Coolpix and tested it out yesterday.
I took a sunspot image at 18:00h BST (17:00h UT) using the special adapter to attach the camera to the 32mm Plossl + 2x Barlow eyepiece combination (114mm reflector telescope). This allowed me to use the full optical zoom (4x) and adjust the focus with the telescope eyepiece rack and pinion.
I am now looking forward to using this technique to image the Moon and planets such as Jupiter and Saturn in the latter part of the year.
Cheers from the Highlands B)
