OMG!

"We found Bush-World to be very distant with an erratic orbit and devoid of intelligent life, just like the President"

Please avoid political discussions on this board. It leads to flame wars and ad hominems. Generic political discussion is fine, but partisan pot-shots will not be allowed. They violate the only rule we have up right now: "Be Nice".

Hmmm... has anyone else noticed yet that this board ideally wouldn't need any other rules as they'd just be various ways of rephrasing "Be Nice"?

;)

Well, "Be Nice" and "Don't Steal". Some people would consider posting full articles to be nice, since they don't have to click on a link to go read 'em.

Thanks Kristophe, Be nice, don't steal, and keep it kid friendly.

I prefer the links - they take up a lot less space on the board (less $$$) and don't run afoul of copyright laws.

Howdy Musashi! Yeah, I've mostly just been lurking, not much to add to the conversations going on at this time. But you know how it goes, one of these days I might just start posting non-stop. :D

the New planet is to be named "BushWorld."

The new rules are coming to the forum soon. This particular thread, while its intent is to amuse, will be near or over the edge as far as politics go. We will be able to discuss supportable statements about politics pertaining to astronomy and spaceflight.

Not that I'd mind political discussions being watched and closed if they get out of hand. But isn't it a little, well, odd to limit topics in an off topic forum? Kind of defeats the purpose.

Plus you stole Bad Movies, TV, No Doughnut! from me. :(

Anyways, I'm not trying to argue with ya, I just thought it odd that topics in this particular forum would be limited to pertaining to astronomy, spaceflight, or well, any specific at all given it's labelled "Off Topic". I can't speak for everybody, but I don't mind political discussions so long as the tone remains polite and nobody is attacking anyone.

I don't think the intention is to limit off-topic to sdpace and astronomy topics, but to limit political discussions to those space and astronomy related. Juts like on the Babb, basically.
Most political discussions ends in flames if they aren't locked soon enough, as people often feel personally attacked when their political preference is criticized (idem with religion).

Oh, and the Bad movies is now called "Small media at large".

Except that they weren't just space and astronomy related - ID and public schools for instance. It's a touchy subject, but to me, the "astronomy and space" bit seems rather limiting. The big problem is when people start taking pot shots at politicians, political parties or countries (like: "the Democrats/Republicans/etc. are all ..." or the "Americans/French/etc. are ...").
