and it looks like it's on the surface as well.:)

Hmm. It's not just water, but liquid water. There's a good chance that this means life currently exists on Mars as well.

You've been ToSeeked (http://www.bautforum.com/showthread.php?t=17306) a long time ago on a bulletin board far, far away... :)

As my late brother used to ask.
"If they eat Mars Bars on Earth, do they eat Earth Bars on Mars?"

What's this then?

The ESA publishes these images, but what are they? Is that coloration accurate? if this were the real colors, that would be amazing. But why is there no dust on this apparent icy spot? I suspect that this spot is the same color as the rest of the crater, and the ESA team has colored it this way to draw attention to what they believe COULD be ice. This is NOT a photograph. It is an image generated from looking at many photos and constructing the surface. Is it ice? It could be.

Are you discrediting the ESA? They are saying this IS water ice, not "maybe".

The photos are enhanced, yes - they are not "artist's impressions".

IIRC, there was a good discussion about this particular image on BABB pre-merge, which I can't seem to find...

It's not a joke if water actually exists on Mars, is it? Weren't you lampooning the idea of water on Mars?

Well, of course it exists! You can see it in the OP picture!

*sigh* It is a joke. That is all it is. It is well known that there is water ice on the planet Mars (liquid surface water, on the other hand, won't last long).

It does look like Mars is flat!!

It was one of those threads where you go in expecting one thing and get another, due to a clever play on words.

I thought we were talking about chocolate bars, have I missed something?

Only the lunchtime buffett, but it was only a bunch of curled up sandwiches with certain exotic fillings containing the dreaded mayonaise :yeuch:

So you did not miss much

oh and there was a real argument about the results of some probe that went to Mars.

Personally, I prefer Snickers bars.
