Does anybody else have a pet bird on here? I was just thinking about avian flu and the threat (not only to humans) that it might pose. I love my guy and wouldn't want him to get sick by something I tracked in from outside.

Used to. He died from something I tracked in from outside.
Then again, that was in 1974, so I seriously doubt it's the same thing...

Not sure what you mean by a "pet" bird, but... I find the idea of caging a bird utterly horrific.

Not currently. I used to have a pair of parakeets. They were the living embodiements of pure evil. We had to give them to some friends when we moved because they wouldn't have survived the car trip. We later got an African Grey parrot. We had hime for a while, maybe 6 or 7 years. However, we were to busy to play with him enough so he was getting depressed, so we gave him to the daughter of one of my mother's co-workers who had a ton of parrots.

I'm in the UK, and I have a budgie, sullen, grumpy thing that it is. Funnily enough (or not), it's been ... peaky over the last few days - not eating, bit lethargic. Seems to have got better, though.

I wouldn't have thought that a pet bird would get avian flu unless you take it on a trip to a farm. It is caught by contact with bird droppings.
Then again if it passes into the wild population make sure you keep it inside.
