One of the fallacies about patterns is there's only one logical sequence. Something like 4 2 5 3 6 would continue as 4 7 5 8 6 etc., but that's not the only conclusion, as the initial pattern may preclude repetition. We just don't know.

Yep - Read my post.
There's more than one logical solution. Just because it's not the same one you happen to be thinking about doesn't make it wrong.
But if you really think you're that hot, solve this one:

Here's a fill in the blank one.
2 5 8 11 13 15 30 34 40 46 52 56 60 63 ____ 69
I don't know anyone who has ever gotten it. Therefore I will give a hint: The sequence is related to my location.

Something like 4 2 5 3 6 would continue as 4 7 5 8 6 etc., but that's not the only conclusion, as the initial pattern may preclude repetition. many puzzle makers, including IQ testers, accept other logical answers to their patterns if the alternative is logically sound.
i haven't dug into either eroica's puzzle, nor genebujold's answer to check, so please don't think i'm making assumptions about either case i've mentioned above. i'm simply agreeing that more than one logical answer exists for some patterns.
maybe when i actually leave work i'll check... ugh.

8 5 4 9 1 7 6 3 2 0
what is the ordering rule?

Umm, sorry for that, I have absolutely no idea what the logic after that order is. I'm curious though...

Continue the sequence:
A B E C F D H G .... Just in case anyone is still interested, here's the answer:
The sequence actually consists of two alternating sequences. The odd-numbered elements are the upper-case letters of the alphabet which are written using only straight strokes: A, E, F, H, I, K, L, M, N, T, V, W, X, Y, Z. The even-numbered elements are the letters that have round strokes: B, C, D, G, J, O, P, Q, R, S, U. :wall:

I'm guessing it's something like the streets a subway line has stations on or a similar geographically defined sequence which have no mathematical pattern (other than growing).

I'm guessing it's something like the streets a subway line has stations on or a similar geographically defined sequence which have no mathematical pattern (other than growing).Correct. But the amusing part is that while all the other stops are numbered streets (2nd, 5th, 8th, and so forth), the missing stop is Milbourne, not a number at all. (Eroica already got the right answer above, but the explanation of why it's the answer hadn't yet appeared).

My eagle eye detects a slight curvature at the ends of the strokes in the V and W, and maybe even the X.
