I think you mean a Festivus Pole.
Ah, yes, every year I eagerly look forward to the Festivus Pole, the Airing of Grievances, and the Feats of Strength.
It's a wonderful time of year. :D

I don't know what this means.
I have a fake tree in the living room that still displays the kind gifts from last year.
OK, I LIKE CHRISTMAS and everything it doesn't stand for!
I like Santa. I like reindeers. I like the goofy stuff that comes with Christmas Spirit.
ARE WE ALL THAT TOTALLY TWISTED TO FORGET HOW GREAT THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT IS!
Whatever it means!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I'll bite, is this anything like a "henway?"Two raidnecks outside a truckstop choke 'n' puke:

Why, Thank you Jeebus! (points up with index finger)
'n custumized too! Ah don' see no name on it, what kind is it?
Way-ell, tell ya what, I'll let y'all figure thet out.
Whaddyamean?
Way-ell, the way Ah sees it, a semi's either a Peterbuilt, one a' them there K-woppers, or a Henway.
What's a Henway?
Oh, 'bout two inna haf t' tree pounds. Jo Anne Worley:

Okay, for those that don't get the Festivus references, it is from the TV show Seinfeld. The father of one of the lead characters was dissatisfied with all of the major holidays, so he invented his own: Festivus (For the Rest of Us!).
Instead of a tree or a menorah, a simple pole is put up to celebrate Festivus. At the Festivus meal, there is the Airing of Grievances, where you tell everyone how they have insulted you or let you down that year. There is also Feats of Strength, which is basically wrestling.
Hopefully that clarifies things for people that weren't getting the joke.

Then there's the Kramer show, where Mr. K (that cosmopolitan) and the cast, by George, tried to go without, well, pleasuring themselves as long as possible. Mr. K, of course, in the stiller the night, had the best solution.
Meanwhile I trust that, for security reasons, they put some locks on that pole! :shifty:

Oh!
Baltimore police stumped over light pole thefts (http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4165262)
(Baltimore-AP) November 25, 2005 - The streets of Baltimore keep getting darker because someone is making off with the light poles. They're 30 feet high and weigh 250 pounds, and yet about 130 of them have vanished this fall.
I knew there was a reason for the recent theft of poles. ;)

Then you would have liked the bumper sticker I had on my car,
"Militant Agnostic, I don't know and you don't either!"

I hated Seinfeld, especially because fans of the show treated me like some kind of alien for not liking it.

I'm with you Gillian, the show always grated on me for some reason.
That explains why I had no idea what the OP meant.
Thanks for recognizing the ancient joke, Mak, I guess this wasn't one though.

Yes! Yes! This is an excellent idea!
We should have a thread called "the airing of greviances" where you get banned if you are polite and considerate.
And because we're not in close proximity we can do another thread called the feats of (logical) strength, where only the tightest and narrowest logic will win.
Oh, and for those not familiar, there is (of course) a Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festivus
And then, come passover, the mods can present us with two banned posters and we'll choose by popular vote which one to unban. My money is on "Barabbas". What? Too much? (all in good fun)
It'll be a Festivus Miracle!!!

I'M not certain. I do, however have a six foot metal pole in the closet (well, diamondwood, but it's grey-ish).
In one of those weird coincidences I thought this morning that a single thread where we could let off some steam (possibly if there was a way to seriously limit our posting to say once a day or week) might be conducive to the board health in general. At the time, I was thinking of the "two minutes' hate" from 1984, but Festivus works as well.
The "feats of (logical) strength" might be fun to watch, especially if someone came up with a particuarly thorny problem.
And the voting back in a banned person - that's one of those things that, on the surface, seems good - but I know will turn ugly quick. At that point, I was defiantely being sarcastic.
hope that helps ;)
