If I have my thyme zones straight, it should be just about 3 AM in Brisbane at the time when I am posting this message.

Ditto!! This board isn't the best by accident, it's members are what makes it so. Best wishes to everyone for a dynamite 2006.
I also raise my glass to Dr. Plait and Mr. Cain on the successful merger of their respective forums. It not only worked, it's thriving and I'm glad to be part of the best thing going on the internet.
I also want to applaud the work of the moderators, some I know rather well, others not so well. All have done a great job IMO, one that is sometimes overlooked by us posters who don't have to think about keeping a board running smoothly when we log in here.

When the time comes, I, too, wish all a good new year, though I hardly know any of you (how much can I learn in a month or so of this?).
The arguments are fun
the Discussions better
and the moderators don't admit they hate me.
What else could I ask for?

Well, kids, I may miss saying "Happy New Year" at midnight CST (1 hour and 5 minutes). I'm too tired. I am doing a quick turn, too. I have to work at 6am 01JAN06. :(

Now that it's the New Year everywhere the Gregorian calendar is followed, best wishes to all for a good and happy 2006!
Meanwhile, how about those Mars rovers? Who'd of thunk they'd still be doing their thing in 2006? Another year of opportunity, that's the spirit!
BTW, when's the New Year on Mars?

BTW, when's the New Year on Mars?
it seems to be around 26th June next year(2007).

BTW, when's the New Year on Mars?
Well, since the date of the New Year is arbitrary, I'm not 100% sure there is one. We can determine what a Martian year is, but can we in fact agree when it starts?

We could say that it's new year when the sun it at X point along the ecliptic(X being the location of the sun on our new year).

I'd suggest using the winter(for the northern hemisphere) solstice as new year.
