1 more thread for a game (we obviously don't have enough).

So, inspired by this thread (http://64.207.216.12/showthread.php?t=37255), figure this out and then respond with one of your own:

6 A in P M (W A F)

(This is vaguely appropriate to this forum, though follow-ups don't need to be.)

ToSeek

Wait till you get the right answer - it's not just a matter of making stuff up!

Nicolas
21-January-2006, 12:14 AM
It is the right answer. Sheesh, it's not because you made the question that you own all wisdom!! ;) :D

(I didn't get a BUZZZZ wrong answer, so I thought I was allowed to continue :))

OK let's scrap my question, and try to find Toseek's one!

Carnifex

Heh, I had the same idea of making this into forum game, good job, ToSeek

I don't know the answer for the question though :eh:

More hints, ToSeek?

And to keep the thread from being bogged down, let's assume that a question remains for a maximum of a day and then someone else asks one, otherwise someone would write something like "52356 is a P C of C" and kill the game.

Hints:

- Appropriate to this forum (astronomy/astronautics)
- If I gave the actual number (without the "W A F"), I bet someone would get it almost immediately
- I could about as easily give it as 6 M A (W A F)

ToSeek

Okay, here's the version without the parentheses:

7 M A

It shouldn't be hard to figure out the other one from this and the previous hints.

555 to 840 Seats in the New Airbus Seating|Cabin Arraignment

Nicolas
31-January-2006, 09:45 PM
Arrangement. :)

You can google, as you have only one or more numbers to go by (2 in this case made it easier) :). I say: "correct!" even though I had different things in mind, but yours are very elegant and in the same spirit.

I thought of things like:

555 to 840 seats in the new Airbus commercial airliner.
555 to 840 seats in the new A380 Superjumbo Aircraft.

But again, as yours was in the same spirit and very elegant and I told you I allowed creativity in the last part (ASA/ACA), it certainly is a correct one! Your turn.

Heh, darn spell-checker corrected it to the wrong word and I didn't notice.
I once had a spell checker replace a misspelling of "inconsistent" with "incontinent" in a business email I sent to several hundred people.
Talk about embarrassing...

But again, as yours was in the same spirit and very elegant and I told you I allowed creativity in the last part (ASA/ACA), it certainly is a correct one! Your turn.

Without googling. I googled for confirmation, but didn't really get it. Now that you say "keg" it makes more sense :). I'm not into imperial/ beer units and not into drinking beer, but somehow that "k of b" sounded like a krate of beer to me :). I got the beer part correct :).

4 engines 4 long haul versus 2 engines 2 fly far?
This would be bizarre, as, umm, that's quite similar, but perhaps that's the point, that they both claim that their particular design helps to get far?

Nicolas
03-February-2006, 09:33 AM
That's the one Fram. Indeed that's the major point in current aircraft design. 4 engines 4 long haul was the way to go. Modern (medium to large-medium sized) long haul aircraft go for "2 engines 2 fly far" however. Except for the A380, but I think that's a matter of size :). (the A340 as well, but that one is somewhat older and still a large aircraft). Of course needing only 2 engines has its advantages. WE've had a discussion on why those small SN Brussels AIrlines planes had 4 engines, but I forgot the reasons :).

Edit: the reasons for that BaE146's 4 engines: low noise emission and ability to start from short runways. In general, using 2 engines is more efficient, unless your plane needs 4 to get enough power to fly of course, like the huge A380. Making such a plane with 2 engines would be very difficult. Of course, it are 2 planes combined into one anyway :).

Your turn!

Aren't "little words" (like "the") supposed to remain spelled out?

Some of these might be easier to figure out.

ToSeek

I would say:

- little words (articles and prepositions) should always be spelled out
- numbers should always be given numerically (a recent entry should have read: T 1 S S 4 a M, 1 G L 4 M)
- "to" and "for" may be represented as "2" and "4", if so desired.
