I used to have a pair of very good Russian 1960s 12x50 binoculars (exact copies of the German WW2 navy design).

12X50's are fairly rare, a good alternative would be 10X50's which are prevalent. Orion has a few good models at various price points. www.telescope.com

Orion also has 11x70 and 15x70 binoculars.
