Just joined the forum today so I thought I would say hi. I got into astronomy a few years ago and am now addicted to astronomy, mirror making and telescope making. I have a backyard observatory and can't imagine how I got by without one. I have been wanting to get into astrophotography. I am sure I will have a lot of questions about this when the weather gets better.

Welcome to BAUT! You can't find a better place to ask astronomy questions, by the way.

Man, when people keep calling him "glasspusher", I wonder if it's a new kind of insult. Then I remind myself that it's his callsign.

Sheesh. :P

You have discovered for yourself the "Thompson Effect", named for Allyn J. Thompson of Making Your Own Telescope (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0933346123/102-9158618-5920152?v=glance&n=283155) fame. It states that for every inch of new aperture the weather at the site will be inclement for twice as many days. There are variations on this law, which include the effect of such things as CCDs, significant astronomical events such as eclipses, etc.

In some areas, such as Seattle, the law is revised to be the square of the inches of new aperture.

Meanwhile, clear skies to you and have fun!
