Has anyone seen the UFO video he's been hawking lately?
I doubt there's anything credible on it, but we're likely to be hearing about it as soon as it hits the larger audience.

It would be good to know if there's something new there.

I have not even heard about it. Could it be a joke or a promo for House of Blues?

Sounds serious.

I think the final paragraph says it all (Ignore the explainable)
The military later said it was a Chinese rocket, Aykroyd said, but he believes he was being summoned and regrets ignoring the call.

Very dissappointing to see him mixed up in such a farce.

Pretty amazing that they were able to deduce the composition (magnesium), altitude, and speed. Must have been lucky and had a nice array of equipment set up.

He was on one of our local Houston Stations (94.5 The Buzz I think) hawking his video. He says he got started in the UFO business when he was in radio. He said something like, "Whenever we did a story on UFOs we got lots of calls" and hence more listeners. After listening to him, he's a believer. The amazon reviews (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EU1Q0Y/qid=1149516278/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6599252-4677636?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=130) don't give it a good rating.

From here (http://paranormal.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=paranormal&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.the-trades.com%2Farticle.php%3Fid%3D4335).

Aykroyd is not the host of this documentary; nor is he the primary subject. ... On the whole, however, there's nothing neither new nor groundbreaking in this DVD. If you haven't ever heard of Roswell, New Mexico, if you didn't see the news stories about the "Phoenix Lights", or if you simply don't have an Internet connection to browse through the hundreds of accounts and photographs on the web, then this documentary might grab you. For those who are skeptics, there's nothing here to convince you.

he sighted "high altitude, glowing magnesium discs traveling at 20,000 miles an hour at 100,000 feet (30,480 metres).

Wow, he's got pretty good eye-sight if he can pinpoint the exact make-up, speed and altitude of the discs.

Wow, he's got pretty good eye-sight if he can pinpoint the exact make-up, speed and altitude if the discs.

And assuming he saw 90 degrees of the path, he had about 7 seconds to determine that.

This is the video in question. I have spent a long time studying this nasa footage without the Host's bias. The strangest footage of them to me is the one near the end. the circular sequence

Ah, magnesium spaceships - especially ones big enough to have crews - moving at 20,000 mph at 100,000 ft would be noticeable by anyone who wasn't legally dead, as the plasma glow lit up the sky and chunks of burning magnesium (magnesium burns brightly) from the disintegrating vehicles flared through the air, eventually followed by multiple sonic booms...

It's ludicrous. Aykroyd is a funny guy and a good comic actor in a limited range, but he's also enthralled with things woo-woo and this is no exception.

I see this as one of three things.

1) An actor pushing a psuedo-science video he made
2) An actor pushing a psuedo-science video he was payed to do
3) Dan Ackroyd's off-beat comedy debut.

Hopefully it's #3. :)

And I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has taken a chemistry where they burned magnesium. One of the few classes where I had to wear sunglasses to perform the experiment. If only Ackroyd took such a class. Next thing they'll tell us is that a spaceship made of Cesium made a water landing.

Yeah, magnesium is BRIGHT.

With the sonic booms and burning magnesium, you would notice a spaceship like that. Now it wouldn't survive the reentry, but it would sure light up the area beneath it.

I would hope it's only a clever bit, but the set-up is at least 12 years long. Google Groups led me to a Usenet discussion that included:

Dan Akroyd had a three minute segment about aliens on Entertainment This Week on [August 1, 1993]. In the interview, Akroyd related an alledged personal sighting near his vacation home on Martha's Vineyard. Akroyd further suggested that he believes there has been a coverup by the U.S. Government which he felt has cooperated with aliens for decades, obviously as part of an agreeement to obtain technology. Akroyd indicated he felt that the U.S. now regrets the arrangement because the aliens defaulted on the technology but that the U.S. is militarily unprepared to end it. Mr. Akroyd further hinted that the aliens are hostile and that the military should develop a means to counter the mind control capabilities the aliens apparently possess.

He also used to host a paranormal show up here in Canada, though I don't recall the name (no big loss, though)

I was going to mention that. They had it on late night on some local channel. I only noticed it because of Dan. I figured he was doing it just for the money, but I wonder now.

With all of the refences to Ackroyd's characters, I'm surprised no one mentioned Mother from Sneakers
(Quoted from memory- please excuse any errors)

"These radios are the same one NASA used to fake the Apollo Moon Landings. They should work pretty well for us."

or

"Cattle mutilations are up this year."

He could be a good force to get kids interested in science if he would hang out with Oberg and not Serada.

I heard him on Coast to Coast. Every once in awhile they have something good--like Oberg's famous statement:

"Shut up, David"

You all fail to mention that on the Ackroyd video are interviews with Astronaut Gordan Cooper who tells of witnessing UFO's not only as an astronaut but as a pilot as well. He photogrpahed them and reported them. Go ahead laugh at Actor Dan...but I believe Gordan Cooper and retired FAA Administrator John Callahan. When I read the posts here they sound like people who work within the NASA "culture"....be more concerned with faulty "o" rings and faulty protective tiles for the underbelly of the shuttle then videos by Dan Ackroyd.
PS- in visiting the Cape I was shocked at what a pigstye it was compared to the well kept theme parks in Orlando.

I believe I came across this one last night while adding to my library hold list (I'm almost up to "D"!). It's on the list of DVDs I've skipped. (They do, however, have the Spacecraft Films Apollo 11 set.)

Gordon. And just because Gordo saw UFOs doesn't mean flying saucers are real.

If NASA had Disney's financing, I'm sure the KSC housekeeping would be up to your standards.

I think the debacle of "ufo"s will not be sort out and can be solve unless the whole world do not see the ufo. I heard in 1978 some soccers were going in the western sky, even my mother too claimed in 1975 that she was seen some thing flat and sparkling object in the eastern sky at 4.00 a.m. when she normally was awakes. It means something is there beyond the earth. :)

As far as Gordon Cooper goes, he did not personally ever photograph any UFOs, nor did he ever see them in space.

The "object" was likely Venus, so describing it as being beyond the Earth would in this case be correct. :)

You guess it correctly, but mother was observed the medium size "moving dish like shape" and which was sparkling with a white+greenish light into it. May be she could not guess " what that was", or due to early wake up in the morning time, there is something appear infront of our eyes and some sort of "things appears infront of our eyes and we can't guess it correctly", hence there was a little deviation in the size, but that size was larger than the venus as seen by our normal eyes. :)

the new definition of UFO is U=unclear, F=false, O=observation of the substance going or in static position, these things later become ufo's. or ufo means the flying machines of which the make:-don't know, who are flying these things:-unknown, destination:-unknown, and hence it is called as unidentified objects.
