I'm taking my third of several philosophy masters courses, and stumbled across this website the other day: http://www.don-lindsay-archive.org/skeptic/arguments.html

It's a gold mine for critiquing/debunking arguements that "sound good," but simply don't hold water.

The more I read of logical discourse, the more I'm beginning to see how much commentary here, in the news, in court, and elsewhere falls into one or more of the many traps of fallacious arguements.

I hope you don't mind, but I'll be using this link and the rules contained therein, hopefully to improve the quality of my own posts, as well as to counter some (a minority, I assure you), of the content contained herein.

Yes, I promise I'll be civil! A lively, but polite debate is usually a sign that things are moving in the right direction, no? And I'll refrain from commenting about things I know little about.

Pious fraud, one of my favorites. Especially the classic "doing [insert activity] for the good of the children". A lot of people fall for this without even realizing it.

Two Wrongs Make A Right, I see that one used far too often by current politicians in their socalled war on terror:(

Two wrongs don't make a right, but 3.... consider that next time you try to make a right turn! ^-^
