I got 7/10 the first time, but felt that early on I'd gotten confused about the purpose of the thought bubbles. The second time I got 8/10, but that time, I got lucky on an African guess. So I guess 7/10 is about right for me.

5/10 the second time around, but I had some tough ones. Brunei? Slovenia? Comoros? I was usually in the right vicinity but not exactly right.

Slovenia I got both times, but fortunately I knew that one. Brunei & Comoros, I'd have to look up. The largest group that I don't know are the small ones on the West coast of Africa. But I'm also weak on the island nations of the Carribean.

Caribbean I could probably do because we took a cruise there once (enroute to seeing a total eclipse about ten years ago). I mean, I know Slovenia used to be part of Yugoslavia, but don't ask me which part. I knew the Comoros were in the Indian Ocean but not where.

Only 4/10 total. A few easy ones (Peru, Norway) but mostly smaller countries and/or islands. (Moldova? St. somebody and something???). Should have got Niger, but clicked Chad instead.

It used to be easier, but since 1990, some 30 new countries (http://geography.about.com/cs/countries/a/newcountries.htm) have come about.
And I just learned in the Capital Challenge edition that Astana (Астана) is now the capital of Kazakhstan (since 1998).
Never even heard of the place.

I picked Latvia instead of Estonia. Got thrown off by the squarish borders and picked Syria instead of Jordan (d'oh!) and got dinged for picking Quatar instead of Djibouti (missed by *that* much).

There is another quiz out there that scores you by how close you actually get to the right place so that a near miss gives you some points.

I got 9/10 on my first try because I mixed up Mauritius and Mauritania. I got 8 on my 2nd and 3rd tries because of more little island nations, but finally got 100% on my 4th. I used to study maps all the time out of boredom and I could, and somewhat still can, name all the countries in the world off the top of my head, but I never took the time to remember the small isalnd nations because I just couldn't care enough.

That would seem a little fairer. I would have liked to have gotten at least a partial credit for knowing that Slovenia used to be part of Yugoslavia.
