Normal materials have positive refractive indices, meaning that light bends to the right of an incident beam. Metamaterials can have a negative index, bending light backwards, to the left of the incident beam.
Light can't bend left??

I have no clue about the topic of the article, but really like the title of the thread, despite hating the movie.:D

So this is the difference between "El Tigre" and "Blue Steel?" I was wondering about that.....And don't forget "Magnum," which is also very good.
I'm ashamed to admit that I actually liked Zoolander. However, I would never force anyone else to watch it against their will, so it's okay.

According to a recent issue of Science News, these metamaterials have properties that could lead to something akin to an "invisibility cloak" -- though not quite as spiffy as Harry Potter's.
They might also make it possible to look inside opaque objects non-invasively.
