Do you ever buy used clothing at thrift shops? I just discovered a wonderful place here in Halifax: Value Village. Over the weekend I bought 4 practically new shirts for $29.00!

In Japan I bought a new shirt from the hundred yen store. The *******s charged me 300 yen for it (Hundred yen store my aunt's left dingo kidney). But still, that's only about 3 bucks U.S. I wouldn't be surprised if the ones you got were higher quality, still, I find that it's interesting that it's cheaper to buy a new shirt than have your hotel dry clean one.

Where I went to school (St. Cloud MN) there was an outlet there named Ragstock (I lived in the old loft apartment above it). Great deals on outdated, out of stock, some used-some new, some seconds type clothing. I bought there quite a bit. They were a great deal and were supposedly leftovers; very stylish in a student/Bohemian sort of way. The best article I ever got there was a set of white coveralls with a 50" waist (mine is 33"). They were huge baggy things that were the ultimate in comfort. When I started wearing them to ski I dyed them red for safety. Left white you could barely see me on the hill.

All the time. My wife finds me great Hawaiian shirts for the summer, stuff that originally went for $40-50 for a few bucks apiece.

I have this marvellous knack for finding good silk shirts at our local Goodwill. In fact, given the strain in my budget of late, all my clothes (except underwear!) are either second-hand or homemade. Oh, and my shoes--the last time I had a large chunk of unbudgeted money, I bought new shoes, but that's partially because Goodwill doesn't generally have shoes in size 10 women's.

I have to shop at a "tall man's" store, so when the rare wearable garment is found on the rack at a thrift store, I snatch it up.
I recently found a new old-stock of big-and-tall pants at a surplus store. Some of the fashion was dated, but some of it wasn't. I got 3 pair of slacks for US$35 -- normally I would have paid well over $120 for them.

My kids and I love hitting the thrift shops. We have the Silver Center Thrift Shop where we have found some great vintage clothing cheap! Goodwill is another of our favorite stops.

What I will usually look for in a thrift store would be tennis shoes. I look for the original one's like Nike, Adidas etc. I do usually find them and in great shape (practically brand new) for about 5 or 10 dlls. That is heck of a lot better then paying close to $100......:)

I go a lot to thrift stores, but not to buy clothes.
From tuesday on, I won't be able to go for months due to my internship, so I'll do 4 of them today :D.

England is full of Charity Shops. If you go to the ones in wealthy areas (Kensington, Chelsea etc) you'll get the best articles at great prices.
My most amazing find was a bag of old coins.
I am a casual collector and I fulfilled a mini-dream by finding a dozen worthwhile coins...including a 1923 Dollar coin, 1845 Silver Shillings and a very old halfpenny from 1790's, besides a handful of sixpence pieces from 1900's.
That was in a shop 5 minutes from where I live.

I got an original M442a Leather US Navy flying jacket from a charity shop in Skipton. they go for a few undered £ on Ebay and a good one is hard to find, I paid £5 for this so I am well chuffed. I have had some good jeans from second hand clothes shops and when I lived in Greenwich the Sunday 'Antique' market was solid with clothes stalls. Students seem to dress in nothing else lol

If the students there are much like the students I know, they can't afford to buy their clothes anywhere else.

Value Village is great. I've picked up three good hockey jerseys from there for about $5 each, and a great suit for $20. My brothers have found rare jerseys (Nordiques, old Sabres, Jets) there, too. On our last trip to Vancouver, we went on a Value Village tour, going through six of them in one afternoon. We even bought a trophy for our weekly pick-up football game, now called the Village Bowl.
I think that most of my video games are also from there. You just can't find NES stuff anywhere else.
I do have some problems with how they treat employees, and that one incident where there was bleach on the seat of the change room and a little kid was hurt a bit, but none of the employees would pay any attention to the problem. I think they offered the mother store credit on a pair of pants which had been ruined.

My sister found a gorgeous kilt-like skirt at an Oxfam store when she was in England some years ago.
