Anyone else catch the Pilot of Jerihco last night on CBS?

Overall I like the show so far, with a few excpetions they seem to have got a good cast and script going. Looking forward to next weeks show.

However I spotted some good and bad science in it, related to nuclear wepons.

In the first scene where the kid hiding on a roof spots the mushroom cloud from Kansas City on the horizon.

The Good: No immediate sound of the Explosion, the movie depicted Jerihco being some 170 miles from KC, would take some time for it to reach. I liked the build up to that scene also, there was none.

It was a perfect example of how a stealth attack would happen, and they didn't spoil it by having the music growing more ominus as the minutes counted down to the scene. One minute life is normal, and the next you are watching the mushrooms sprouting on the horizon.

The Bad: Even at 170 miles the initial bright nulcear flash would of been noticed, probably lighting up the town as if a huge flash bulb had been set off, or close lightning had happend. They showed some flashes later from more didstant explosions. And then later on some normal lightning.

The Ugly: The EMP from the weapons knock out the electronics long before the shock wave would get to anyone. There was a scene where someone was leaving a phone message, said "What the ___ is that?" then hear the Explosion along with a "Oh my God no!" then the phone cuts off. In truth the Phone would of cut off at about the Wha..in the first word.

Certainly an interesting first episode. Like most pilots it has to set up all its characters quickly and this often ends up viewing them as a little cliched or contrived. eg they quickly set up the two love interests for the man star - the girl who's fiance was out of town (an old girlfriend?) and the girl on the bus (clearly the one he should be with, but probably hasn't gotten over the other one yet).

There are Lost overtones, though it reminded me more of Day of the Triffids and The Midwich Cuckoos - town cut off from the rest of the world and some mystery about to unfold.

I'm glad they managed to stop it being unbearably patriotic or sentimental. That's something they'll have to be careful to avoid in the future.

The show does perhaps take itself a bit too seriously. I'd like to see a bit of humour come in here. Mnind you this was the first episode with (possibly) the world destroyed in a nuclear war, suppose if any episode should be devoid of humour it would be this one!

I don't think the show will hit the big times like Lost. Maybe go for a few seasons. But in many ways I like that. Means the mystery will unfold quicker and the stories aren't stuck treading water for half a season.

i'll be watching it next week.

As for the science - I wouldn't worry too much. I get the feeling there is more than just a nuclear attack going on. All those dead birds at the end, the fact the gieger counters registered no radioation, and the token black guy suggest some deeper mystery to be resolved.

I liked it too but shows I like usually get cancelled.

Hi dgavin,

Jericho hasn't premiered around the world yet so I changed the thread title to let people know they might get more information than they might want when opening the thread. Hope that's okay.
