I watched the Heroes premiere on NBC last night, and it was good, but had a big element of Bad Astronomy. Specifically, an eclipse occured during the episode. Several problems with it:

1 In New York, the eclipse is partial, but you can see a bit of a ring of light around much of the moon.

2. One of the characters was viewing said eclipse, with only sunglasses without going blind. (of course, maybe he has a superpower that prevents him from getting blinded by the sun....nah.)

3. Totality is shown in Las Vegas and Tokyo. (actually, I believe it was an annular eclipse in the end)...but there is no such eclipse expected in North America for many years, and I'm not even sure a totality path can be that long.

But WORST OF ALL....Kitty Pryde did not time travel in X-Men #143....she fought a demon.

Moved from "Bad Astronomy Stories" to "Small Media at Large".

Y'know, I noticed that too and assumed it was B.A. at first. But then, the Cabbie/Professor (I suck at character names until about the third show :() commented on New York wasn't supposed to get totality... and then it did. I'm going to give the show the benifit of the doubt for the time being and assume its a plot point about the mutants/specials/abberants/whatever (after all, heroin proficy boy did paint an eclipse which seems to mean it has a connection).

All that said, cool show and definatly worth a spot on my TiVO Season Pass list.

Yes, I cringed when the guy looked at the sun with just his glasses on. Also, the lady in Las Vegas using the pinhole lens trick to view the eclipse was inside a house with a closed window and it didn't look to me like it was actually in direct sunlight.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, hailstop.

Yeah. I was thinking painter guy may have had something to do with that too. And it is a pretty cool show.
