There were two loop prominences on the Sun's leading limb on Sunday afternoon at approximately 19:00 UT and a rather spectacular prominence on the trailing limb.

A photo of the large prominence by Eric Roel that appeared on spaceweather.com is posted at http://www.spaceweather.com/swpod2006/09oct06/roel.jpg

Observations were made with a 40mm Coronado PST and an 8-24mm Vixen Lanthanum LV zoom eyepiece.

Its not too bad today either. Missed it yesterday. If the thin clouds will get out of my way it might be even better.

ooh chance of an aurora tonight perhaps. Good viewing here tonight, going to watch the moon occulting the Maia cluster as long as it doesnt fog up

The large prominence was still hanging in there on Tuesday afternoon.

Here's Alan Friedman's three frame animation (http://www.avertedimagination.com/img_pages/prom_animation.html) of the prominence from an earlier date.
