Last week the ABC started showing the 'Space Race' history series. I have only just watched the first episode tonight and I have a small question related to an incident that's shown in the adverts and in the series intro.
There are two Soviet accidents in the series intro. One is a recreation of the Nedelin Disaster (http://www.russianspaceweb.com/r16_disaster.html), I've seen the alleged actual footage of this at Aussiecon 3 in '99 and I'm not sure I can watch it again, much like 11/09/01 really...
The other however, I do not recognise, what's shown is a computer generated scene of a Vostok re-entry going badly wrong, the thruster module is still attached to the re-entry capsule by an electrical cable and the whole lot is doing a pretty good impersonation of a round of chain-shot.
Is this a recreation of a flight incident from a manned Vostock flight or from one of the test flights sent up under the 'Sputnik' series name?
