Is that a 90mm refracting telescope? It's probably a fairly decent scope, but at that price point will probably have some false color around the moon and brighter planets, which is common for non-apochromatic refractors. An apochromatic (color free) refractor usually runs into thousand$.
As far as your scope goes, it will probably perform pretty well on the moon and planets. It ought to do OK on most Messier objects as well. I don't know about the quality of the mount it came with, that may be the first thing you'll want to upgrade. A stable mount is every bit as important (maybe even more important) as good optics for observing.

The Celestron C90 (http://www.celestron.com/c2/product.php?ProdID=203) is a high f/ratio Maksutov-Cassegrain spotting scope which is primarily intended for terrestrial use.
However, it should produce fairly good lunar and solar views (with an appropriate solar filter) and acceptable but somewhat tiny views, since magnification will limited to the mid-100x range, of the major planets. (You'll need at least one short focal length eyepiece for that purpose.) The C90 will resolve binary stars that aren't too tight. Brighter deep-sky objects are possible targets, especially from dark sites. The 8x21 finder scope won't be terribly useful for astronomical observing.
