So far, I am finding lots of links by adherents, but not much from an unbiased scientific perspective. IIRC, Penn and Teller had an entertaining show on it, but that is hardly rigorous science.

Thanks. I will look into those. I am having a discussion with someone who is defending it as a religion. IMO, it is pseudoscience at best, akin to astrology/numerology/etc.

A religion? How odd.

I think the science behind Feng Shui is something along the lines of: if you surround yourself with good things you will be a happier person and vice versa.

Some of this would be obvious, like people in brighter rooms being generally happier than those in in darker rooms, or people feeling less stressed and more tranquil when listening to water. There will also, of course, be more subtle reactions. When it comes to our environment, a lot of what makes us happy or feel good or healthy is very likely unconscious.
