Search the board for Vegemite... There's quite a long thread on it, I'm sure you'll find Ausies there. :D

I live in Australia, but I'm not really Australian on account of how I don't like cricket.

I live in Perth but Im originally from north of Perth, from a small town called Carnarvon. There is lots of light pollution here, although I can still see the jewel box from my backyard. I joined an astronomy club here a few years ago and twice a year, we go on a camp south east of Perth. Its great because the same people always go on the camps and they are small so its easy to get to know everyone there. My astronomy club has a big 17 inch dob that they take on the camp so its fun using that scope.

Do you get to see much in Sydney? What are the skies like in the US? We have some light pollution here in Perth but its not too bad. I can still see the Jewel box from my back yard.

I live on the fringe of the light bubble in Western Sydney, so typically I get mag 4.5 or so skies.

The sky here is amazing. I am in the wilds of Western Kansas, so typically under mag 6 skies. We sat up for hours the other night watching the Orionoide meteor shower.

Unfortunately I dont have anyone here to show me the skies, so sorta figuring it out as I go

Hi there MC

there are heaps of aussies on this forum.

I have a 10 inch dob, an ED80 on a CG5 Mount, an ETX 70 and a Coronado PST and an Oberwerks 20 x80 Binos..but to use most of this gear for satisfying views, I have to drive 60 km to the Blue Mountains West of Sydney, thanks to the light pollution

On bad days I can barely see the fifth star in the Southern Cross

PS I like cricket and I support the Swans

I can always see the Southern Cross here, even when its a full moon. There are places in Perth that are less light polluted than others but to get really dark skies, its best to travel about 50km east. Of course the further away from the city lights, the better. I would love to take my scope up north to where my parents live, about 10 hours drive north of Perth. No light pollution and very, very dark skies.

How long have you lived in Tokyo? Did you move there for work? What are the skies like there? Ive never been to Tokyo but I know a few people that have been there. They all had a great time there and they would go back again. What part of Australia are you from? Im from the West.

G'Day All. I'm originally from the UK, but moved to Aus in 91, and BrisVegas in 96. An eyeball mk 1 observer, but I have been to :
- Uluru (where it was cloudy 2 nights of the 3!)
- Heron Island - surrouonded by 80Km of ocean - Beautiful!

I couldn't stand cricket originally, but it's growing on me - maybe helped by the fact that I work across the road from the Gabba, where the first Ashes match'll be played in a couple of weeks time.

GO THE POMS !!!

(did I mention I was from the UK?)
