After much stressing for the past month or so, I found out on Thursday night that I got into my first choice college- Acadia University! I'm sooo excited and still can't believe that I actually got in, especially this early. YAY!

I wanted to double major in biology and chemistry but you can't declare a double major until second year I think, so I'll be starting as a biology major. I want to eventually go to med school so I'm going to be into the whole bio/chem thing. Fun stuff though!

Good for you. I, too, was fascinated by that whole bio/chem thing.

Congratulations!
Now, instead of chemistry and biology, you should consider physics, of which the former two areas are but merely subsets.
I wish you the greatest success possible!
Brava!

Why do you know your admittance so early, or are you starting in Semester 2?

Congrats GG. I've been through that second hand as my youngest went through that last year and my oldest is waiting for her grad school applications to return. It a tough time, but getting into your first choice certainly makes it worth it, right?

Congratulations ! And remember: you don't need a licesnse to read. ....
Why not get a reading list for either of those disciplines and get familiar with
their first year course. May be an advantage.
Also, try one of the best books in the library. "How To Win Friends and
Influence People ". A wonderful book which will serve you well.

Way to go, Girl!
With biochem, you'll be taking at least a year of physics anyway - enough to get your feet wet, probably your ankles too.
Cheers!

 What????!!! Oooh, I can't let you say that in the face of a biochemist and let you get away with it!!!!!
If biology and chemistry are "merely subsets" of physics, then you will be able to answer this challenge:
Using only sequence information, use ab initio molecular orbital calculations to derive the 3D structure of a protein (any protein, I leave the choice to you).
Once you've done that, you can tell me that biology and chemistry are subsets of physics...
PS Does anyone know how to make/display an emoticon with steam coming out of its ears?

I'll be starting in September 2007. Their early applications are rolling so you find out soon after they recieve everything, however it still seems really early but I'm fine with that!
Congrats!
I am in the stressing state right now - I'm waiting for some college apps to come back :)
Ahh, the dreaded stress state... Where are you applying? Keep us posted on how things go.

Well, I applied to CU boulder very early on in Aerospace Engineering - expecting that app back any week now (they have rolling apps too). If I get in, I won't even bother applying anywhere else, but if I don't, I still will have a month or 2 to get the other apps in. I too plan on double majoring (though that isn't an option on the app), with mechanical engineering as the second major. I'm also considering going for a masters in the Aerospace (yeah, yeah, I know it's a lot). The closer I get to when my app should come back (about 2 weeks from now), the more stressed I get...

Galaxy, congrats. its fine that you have chosen after a long awaiting selection of the university, somewhere you were called a survey that "which university is best for education" especially in canada.
Doing MS in bio & chem is so nice. Today is the era of specilization of one subject with a through master's degree. But if someone is thinking about master of all MS, then that will also to be too good.
I have also heard that queen's university is also nice one in canada.
I wish you all great success.

Of course just for fun you could just use a mechanical Royal typewriter instead of a word processor to truly understand the meaning of stress and deadlines. Then again, why should anyone suffer what I suffered. Go ahead and use a computer.:wall:

I am just doing a 2nd fun here:
somewhere I have read that "study said that excessive use of computer key board may disturb the handwriting style", (in yesterday's newspaper) hence there is need to use the computer but with a limited typing!! :)
If computer is to typewriting, then thinking and programming is to brain? (Y/N) (quiz) :)

Hey, girl. Just a note here to let you know I think you've done quite an awesome job in college, so far. Your work over the summers, the classes you've taken, and the work you have done, have really been impressive. I know you've had a bump or two along the way, but your work, from what you've posted, has won my admiration (if that means anything to you)

I had my good experiences, and my bad. Overall, I've forced to agree, though. Queen's is a good school, with a tight student community. Their physics programme can be downright soul crushing at times, though. I had to dust myself off more than once.
Kingston, however, is far, far too "college town". It's too small, the people are too sick and tired of students, and by the time I finally left this past May I had no patience left for it. I'm glad to be in a larger centre now, where students just sort of disappear into the background, rather than take centre stage as the demons that bring forth all the evils of the world.

I'll agree to that, but I don't know about the physics program: I'm a political studies major. Probably a wee bit less intensive.

Yeah, that is kind of rough. I like Kingston well enough, but the locals do have a bit of a grudge. They do have some grounds, of course, but it grates. Still, I make do.

I heard that Massachusetts is a "King University in all other technical universities in the world" !
The university is itself a great word, but there we can see the diversity of different brilliant minds working with them.
When I interviewed with one unemployed youth here, he said that "today's universities are the great factories of preparing unemployment by granting the degrees, I have advised him that "hey man your assumption is wrong, I replied to his comment "man, those who have received the jobs they are holding the same degrees in their hands", see the photos. I tried to change is negative attitude, and later he convinced with me, I suggest him to take a master's degree first, become a master in the subject and then "the companies will run towards you", he laughed.
