Rather sad story came across my desk this past week. A friend of mine I'd lost touch with I discovered just had a baby with a syndrome that I can't quite place, and my skills with Google and Wiki are not delivering...

I seem to recall something that sounded like Waverly Barre Syndrome or something akin to that.

The symptoms she described to me were being very weak, requiring a feeding tube and supplemental oxygen for his first few months. He's a year old now and off the O2.

I was just curious, because it sounded close to Guillain Barre Syndrome, but I know I heard Waverly or Waverleigh.

Hmm...those symptoms seem pretty general. Is it a problem with the diaphram maybe? or the esophagus? or just all muscular function in general? any other symptoms that would narrow it down some?

Anyway, best of luck to your friend and the baby. Never an easy thing to go through.

General muscular dysfunction. He's apparently dealing with motor coordination issues.

Is it a problem with the muscles, or a problem with brain function?

[Edit]
Werdnig-Hoffmann syndrome (http://www.whonamedit.com/synd.cfm/1825.html) sorta sounds like it, altho from the description I sincerely hope not.

Walker Warbug Syndrome (http://www.webmd.com/hw/raising_a_family/nord970.asp) also came up in a search, but it doesn't seem to really fit. At least, not from that WebMD description.

I don't have enough specifics, unfortunately. We spoke for about an hour and had a lotta ground to cover.

I think it's time the parents ask the doctor to spell it and contact you. Otherwise, GIGO. Garbage in, garbage out.

No name, nothing to go on. It could be any one of a number of things.

Probably so. I knew I was asking for a long shot, I just didn't know there were that many different ways to roll genetic snake eyes with neuromotor function. :(

Here's a list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_congenital_disorders) that might help.
