Yeeeeck. I'm still trying to figure out if this brillant idea of mine is a case of temporary insanity. However, after a couple months of mulling things over I decided to persue a master's degree. Engineering's fun, but the jobs I'm finding aren't where I really want to relocate to and, I donno, the engineer's life isn't really for me I'm starting to think.

So, out of a fit of "why did I even decide to become an engineer anyways?!" I decided to got for a masters in computer science.

I'm still waking up in the middle of the night thinking, "Gees I have a wife and a 2 year old, what could I be thinking?" The most complex math I've done in years is to balance my checkbook.

Thankfully my wife is encouraging me to the point I'm not sure who's more excited that I'm doing this.

So, anybody here have any good (or bad or funny) tales to tale (or advice) about going back to a university environment after being in the "real world"?

Personally, I liked the university. They gave us money and facilities, we didn't have to produce anything! You've never been out of college! You don't know what it's like out there! I've *worked* in the private sector. They expect *results*.

I will have some in a few months time.

Most important news will be checking out the new load of girls. All 5 of them. If it's a good year.

*Looks around in his current 50/50 environment*

I don't want to go back...

;)

Seriously though, if you really feel like you want to do it, things will go fine. Enjoy your MSc!! And 2 years is not that long. I assume you already have the BSc.

I really, really enjoyed the life of a grad student. It was fun, I learned a ton of math, and even tried my hand at writing a thesis (which I don't even understand anymore!). Two years of great fun, hit the snooze button on life and enjoy yourself. (I also got paid to do it as well, at least enough to live on)
