...killer robots:

Samsung - in partnership with a Korean university - is developing a sentry robot with two cameras, one for day, one for night. Sophisticated pattern recognition will detect the difference between movement by humans and trees. It's 5.5mm machine-gun can be programmed to shoot-to-kill targets up to 500 metres away. Expected to sell for $200,000 (£100,000) each it will, one techno website says, "further ease relations" between South and North Korea

If I were South Korea, I'd go for something along the lines of the ED-209 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ED-209). Those 5.5 mm machine guns are fine if they have a high rate of fire but personally, I'd want something with a bit more kinetic energy. "Dear Leader" is nuts.

Lessee.. take a terribly charged situation and introduce *mobile* landmines with a killzone a kilometer in diameter, "controlled" by one side. Yeah, this is a concept from heaven.

SOUTH KOREA: I didn't machine gun you! My robot did!

NORTH KOREA: I guess you're right. And after watching 'Short Circuit' five times there is no way I can stay mad at a robot. Come here and let me tickle you, you cute little robot!

ED-209: THROW DOWN YOUR WEAPONS! YOU HAVE FIVE SECONDS TO COMPLY!

NORTH KOREA: He's so adorable when he says that.
