Yesterday I attended the 2007 Northeast Astronomy Forum and Telescope Show (http://www.rocklandastronomy.com/neaf.htm), commonly referred to as NEAF. As usual, there was an incredible array of telescopes, eyepieces, mounts, electronics, and other astronomy gear. Time passes at an accelerated rate at NEAF and with attending 3 of the lectures, which were all excellent, and arriving later than I ever have before I didn't have much time to inspect all the vendor booths.

However, I did have a long look through a new Tele Vue prototype eyepiece known mysteriously as the Ethos. It was a 1.25"/2" hybrid barrel 13mm with a 100 degree apparent field of view (AFOV).

The field of view and rectilinearity of the Ethos were really quite amazing. Of course, Uncle Al declined to answer questions about the design for proprietary reasons.

After comparing the delineated AFOV boundaries, 82 degrees just doesn't seem so big anymore! ;)

There has been a lot of speculation already about just how much these oculars will cost.

I looked through it too. The AFOV was so big I couldn't take it in. Then again, I can't take the AFOV from an 82 degree EP in either.

Any idea of the pricing?

100 degrees?

Dang...

And here I thought our 82 degree Series 5000 UWA Meades had a huge field of view...

Tele Vue now has a web page announcing the Ethos.

Tele Vue employee Paul Dellechiaie was apparently responsible for much of the design.

Apparently, $450 seems to be a price that some people think is likely. Others say $500.
