Anyone know what's happened to www.randi.org AKA JREF? I've not been able to access it today, looks like the domain isn't being recognised.

How odd! Thought it strange when I couldn't find anyone else asking.
I get:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at www.randi.org.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
& similar in IE. No proxies.
I'll reboot everthing & try again. Back in a min :)

It's a conspiracy, Roy. You're being blocked by the evil UK government agents. Randi has been known to be somewhat unkind to Tony Blair's wife as well as assorted woo-woo leanings by the royal family.

LOL! well he has my support on both counts there :)
I dunno. I've powered down everything: PC, router, modem & am still getting same 'server not found error'. I've by-passed the cache ... dunno what else to do. I'm guessing that there's some blockage somewhere between my ISP & the site. Maybe I'll try bleach & a plunger :shifty::)

Well, it came up for me and I'm in London too.
But I have a friend who lives a few miles away in another part of London that was having problems over the weekend accessing certain websites. Maybe there is a dns lookup problem in the area.
I did a DNS lookup for www.randi.org and got 206.225.95.123 so you could try sticking http://206.225.95.123/ into your browser and see if that works. (I tested it, it works for me, but I can get the normal dns version anyway!)

DOH DOH DOH!:doh:Why didn't I think of that?!!! Yep, that does the trick, so DNS lookup snarly as you say then. Cheers! I now get my weekly dose of Randi amazingness (that should be a word!) :D

FWIW, Roy, it's affecting me, too. I get the "page not found" error on www.randi.org, but can put in the IP address like speedfreak suggested and get through.
Don't knock yourself out about not thinking of it yourself, though, because it would've done you no good. Unless you happen to have that IP address memorized or something. :D

If you are, or ever have been an mIRC user you might know that can use it to do a DNS lookup for any IP address (which gives the DNS address) or for the DNS address (which gives the IP address). It is part of the function that allows you to look up the IP addess of a user on the network. I dare say there are dedicated DNS lookup tools out there too, but I just use mIRC if I need to find the IP of a website/chat user, or to find the website/user info for an IP address.:eh:

Oh, yeah, I guess a DNS lookup would work.

Well I've just tried several DNS lookup sites (but not mIRC) & had no luck so far:think:

I've only ever done it using mIRC I'm afraid. It's an old internet relay chat command, { /dns IP-address or /dns domain-name } and I suppose it might not work on all irc-networks.
If you want to post a few URLs I can give you the IP addresses.

Network Solutions (http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=randi.org)' WHOIS option seems to work.

So it does. I tried that site as well. Must not of scrolled down far enough.
Hopefully my hair won't be so blond tomorrow ;)

I'm just paranoid enough to wonder if there's some sort of legal action going on by Uri Geller to block access, on the basis of Randi hosting the video of him getting caught cheating. According to Randi, he's been getting this pulled from YouTube.

I'm having the problem too, and it's affecting the forum as well as the main site.
In my experience, such glitches are most often due to some sort of error on the part of the domain registrar, or failure to pay the registration fee (the latter is unlikely, I think, in this case). They've become more common since the monopoly on registration was broken up; with multiple registrars there's a possibility of things getting out of sync.

It's not likely to be an expiration thing = domain doesn't expire until 2009...

mIRC or just IRC?

It's probably just a server swap putting the site on a new IP. They can update their (authoritative) DNS record in moments, but it can take up to a day for that change to propagate everywhere.

That wouldn't stop queries from resolving, it would make them resolve to the wrong number.
This was not the case here.

Hmm. You're right, we were getting "domain name unresolvable" errors. Someone's DNS server may have melted down somewhere.

mIRC or just IRC?
Well its an mIRC command. I don't think its part of the original IRC commands.
/dns {nickname | IP address | domain name} Uses your providers DNS to resolve an IP address
But as it uses your ISPs DNS it may not work if your ISP is the one with the problem, so a web based one may be more useful.

Slightly off topic.
I have never heard of that site. Nice though.
Is there a thread on this cruise?
Are any BAUT members going?

If I'm not mistaken, the BA himself is going. So, yes.
