American Media has decided to suspend publication of Weekly World News, both the print publication and the web site. No reason was given at press time, although reliable sources do tell us that management turned down at least one offer to buy the publication.
I suspect it was a conspiracy between the space aliens and Britney. ;)

I am sad. In Memoriam, let me reproduce a few favourite headlines.
"Hitler's Nose Cloned--and It's Growing a Moustache!"
"Woman Killed by Fur Coat"
And, of course, the eternal political interference of those wacky aliens.
Doom. What a letdown.

"Scientists Detect Infant Galaxy - And It Has a Heartbeat!"
No, that's a real one.
The checkout line at the supermarket will not be the same. They will be missed.

"Scientists Plan to Blow Up The Moon!"
I think that one was my favorite. I'll be sorry to see them go.

Well, there's always America's finest news source. See their report on the Japanese quake, for instance:
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/earthquake_sets_japan_back_to_2147
Japanese government officials confirmed Monday that the damage wrought on Japan's national infrastructure by the July 16th earthquake—particularly on the country's protective force field, quantum teleportation system, zero-point fusion energy broadcasting grid, and psychodynamic communications network—was severe enough to set the technologically advanced island nation back approximately 300 years to a primitive mid-22nd-century state of existence.

Wonder what their last headline will be?
They've currently got one about the Angel of Death visiting the US. Premonition?
