Talk about a dangerous job. One brave little beagle.

From the article:

"On a recent checkup on several tagged females, Mr. Snow and Lori Oberhofer, another park biologist, headed out in Mr. Snow’s battered, white S.U.V. with a beeping radio-tracking receiver and “Python Pete,” a beagle trained to sniff out pythons."

One of their techniques to reducing the python problem is that they tag the females, then track them to kill off the males they attract. Python Pete helps in locating the animals. Hope he's trained not to get too close.

The only thing that's been keeping me busy between unusually frequent bouts of work today was going in to your posts and providing snippets from your links. But you've already done that for me. I hope you're happy. ;)

Neither of my dogs are trained to hunt snakes, but if you tell the one "Go get your sister!" she'll run and find the other, then bark and pull on her tail until she gets her attention, then leads her back to use. It's very usefull, as the "sister" dog is hard of hearing, and stubborn. Instead of standing at the door and calling for her to come in (futile anyway), we just say "go get your sister!" to the other dog, and within about 10 seconds we have both inside. :)

I'll I can think of is the Gary Larson cartoon of the boy with the "invaluable lizard setter" (the dog is pointing at a lizard). ;)
