Resistance is futile! :)September 11, 2007
..."In other words, chocolate is a highly desirable food, but which according to social norms should be eaten with restraint," he [Peter Rogers, a psychologist at the University of Bristol] said. "However, attempting to resist the desire to eat chocolate only causes thoughts about chocolate to become more prominent, consequently heightening the desire."...

Mmmmm....chocolate...:D

I like Godiva or Lintz. A friend of mine gets me these gourmet chocolates from some place in NY, but I can't remember the name of it off-hand. There is also a guy at the farmer's market every Wed. at the Metro stop in Clarendon that sells this selection of dark and milk chocolate truffles that are divine. They come spiked with unusual flavors too, like candied ginger, cinnamon, cayenne pepper (surprisingly good), wasabi (haven't tried that one), and lavendar (heard it was soapy-tasting so left it alone). The truffles are really big too, so you get bang for your buck.

The other find is this guy who sells homemade cookies, brownies, etc. His chocolate biscotti are to die for, and his fudge brownies frosted with ganache are out of this world! He's at the same place as the truffle guy.

Nice one, Gillian. (OMG! My third day posting and Gillianren is already talking to me!)
I don't eat splenda, cookies, candy, pastries other than pie, or drink soda.

All you ladies are talking about SWEETENED chocolate & with milk & other stuff added. Have you tried chocalate as the Aztecs used it & the Mexicans still do, in sauces for turkey & some other meats? I think most of the harm & "addiction" comes from the sugar & other goodies content, though the caffeine-like action plays a part.

You are talking about mole sauce, which I can't eat, as it has peanuts in it too.

Sorry you took it that way. It was a statement/guess of fact. I did not want to say girls, women or females, so used the Americanism "ladies".
Also a statement/guess of fact, even if my first guess was correct :)

A mole (Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mole_%28sauce%29)) sauce, may have peanuts, as I learned a couple of years ago. Every region has primary moles, mixtures or sauces. Some contain chocolate. Some are even primarily peanuts. They come in many colors and feature a variety of ingredients.

For instance there is guaca-mole: an avocado (ahuacatl) mole.

Not Guilty on first 5 counts, Guilty on count #6. The ladies/girls/women/females/harridans at my workplace years ago gave me a tie for Xmas. It has cute little pigs on it & the letters MCP below the pigs. I still have it & wear it at times. (& btw I am for women's rights, ERA, women's right to chose etc etc but do not consider that, though equal, we are the SAME. Vive la difference!!! as the French say)

...Have you tried chocalate as the Aztecs used it & the Mexicans still do...The Zapotec approach:September, 2007
...Rich, flavorful tejate began as the morning drink of kings and high royalty in the ancient Zapotec culture, dating from about 500 B.C...made from cinnamon, corn and dark-roasted seeds of the cacao fruit, mixed with the flowers and sweet orange pulp of the mamey melon. Cacao is the main ingredient in chocolate, and it has enough caffeine to provide a morning eye-opener...Tejate recipes and roasting secrets are passed down from grandmothers - and, when made correctly, the brownish-orange liquid develops a creamy white foam on top...

chocolate eating is best for heart, even in kids the chocolates assist them to increase their intelligent, I heard last time. (no link available). But the sweat part of the chocolate keep some bad impact on the teeths, sometime the chocolate material goes in the gaps of gum may create trouble when drinking water. :(

I remember that movie--Mr. Sourpuss as the villain in both the computer world and the real world.

My mom had a crush on Jeff Bridges (before he got fat) and loved this movie.

I'm allergic to solid chocolate (gives me nasty headaches and a foul mood), so I can only eat it sparingly and usually only in coating form (over nougat, peanut butter, etc.). :( Can eat brownies and chocolate cake, pudding, etc. -- but also sparingly. Developed that allergy in my late 20s.

This has, in turned, developed a genuine appreciation of a good vanilla in me (vanilla bean). Yum. If done right, I love vanilla as much as chocolate.

Independent of the headache; it's a combined reaction. Not sure if the allergic reaction constricts blood vessels in my brain or what. :( My spouse was actually afraid of me the two times [that was enough!] he witnessed it; said I became mean and agitated. We quickly put two and two together, that chocolate was the trigger.

I can't eat a regular solid chocolate bar (w/almonds or otherwise) in one setting; 1/3 of it over 3 days would be the max.

This all started around 12 years ago. Prior to that I could eat chocolate with no "side effects" except acne. :-\

I also like "soft chocolate to eat", because last time in hurry I tried to chew rigid chocolate and due that a sudden seismic jerk appear in the upper team of teeths in the left side 5th from the front teeth, hence later I decide to eat only soft chocolate. :) that chocolate was so much solid and even could not be easily cracked with the help of hammer. But anyway chewing chocolate/chewingum is the best for the jaws.

I like melting a pot of chocolate, then immersing a pack of crackers in there. I use the standard double-boiler setup to melt the chocolate. Crackers, pretzels, soft pretzels (Try it sometime!), olives, cherries. orange wedges, apple slices, rhubarb, "ice cream pasta", ect.

Sometimes I'll buy a small case of Hershy bars, and make stuff for halloween.
