Marriage is eco-friendly, divorce is not (http://www.wkyc.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=79233)
An ecologist at Michigan State University has been studying the affect of divorce on the environment...
The researcher says he knows some couples really do need to split up, but says living with other people helps reduce the impact on the environment.
Um... Yeah... Duh...

I have a joke t-shirt that says "We're staying together for the sake of the cat". :D
I'll have to get one that says "We're staying together for the sake of the Earth" ;)

I can see it now:
Honey, let's not just stay together for the kids, let's stay together for the planet!

You're probably thinking of Eco Mirage', the Welsh-Italian poet who wrote The Song of Wandering Angus:
I went out to the pasture green
Because a fire was in my head
And picked the angus patties clean
And put them in a compost bed
And when the bed was thick and deep
With anaerobes digesting well
I stuck a pipe into the bed
Ignoring the disgusting smell
It had become a source of gas
As well as one of mal-de-mer
When lighted by a burning splint
Did brighten up the evening air...

Well duh. Staying together in that situation envariably leads to one spouse shooting the other in the face, which leads to free fertelizer, to grow more plants, to scrub more CO2. Divorce, on the other hand, leads to lots of angry, heated arguments, which release more CO2.
Lets make a movie called, "The Inconveniant Spouse"

Then there was the planned sequel to Ghostbusters II: "The Ecto-Marriage."

What they're really talking about is not marriage, but cohabitation... and the same logic also applies to having all of your children, cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, parents, grandparents, and grandchildren in one house.

What! No numbers to support his research, we are only given $7 Billion.
No comparative utility bills.
What about the fact that married people are known to replicate/spawn, some of them drive MPV....yuck!

If they'd called it "eco-shacking up" it never would have been published in these post-Janet Jackson days of backlash-conservatism regarding "family values".
