View Full Version : Semi-Important Question regarding Virgin Galactic

If all goes according to plan, sometime next year, the first SpaceShipTwo vehicle will lift off from Mojave Spaceport carrying paying customers, including Richard Branson's family and probably many other adventurous celebrities. For the first time in all of human history, flying into space will be more than a dream for the average joe or jane. This is a very important Historical Event and there will probably be a lot of ceremony at the take-off.

So... what song should they play before the pilot revs up the engine of the WhiteKnightTwo and the voyage begins? It will probably be performed by a Big Shot and go down in history.
So what do you think it should be?
My suggestions:
Rocket Man by Elton John
Where My Heart Will Take Me by Diane Warren (Star Trek: Enterprise theme song)
Breaking Free from High School Musical I

Not seriously, but how about "What Goes Up" by the Alan Parsons Project?

Or how about Crazy Plane by Ozzy Osbourne. Or was that crazy train... With a slight change in lyrics, it could be, "I'm going into space on a crazy plane!"

maybe they could get Metallica to play live- of course, "The Ecstacy of the Gold" would play as the plane takes off, then something with some energy that builds gradually for the trip up- like, say, "Orion", then "Through the Never" and "Astronomy" while they are in "cruise" mode, then "To Live is to Die" for the trip down, and, for a grand finale as they get out of the ship after it lands, they would play a rousing rendition of "Battery"..

Set Your Controls for the Heart of the Sun

Pink Floyd

Unless they had a LOT of fuel, that would be pretty tough to do. Plus, I think it might get hot. Though I suppose they could go at night.

Oh, and two more ideas, following on my previous logic:
ELO, Don't Bring Me Down
Gloria Gaynor, I Will Survive

"Fly me to the moon"-Frank Sinatra, they can Buble (I can't spell his name) to sing it with a bit of alteration of the lyrics..."Fly me to space..."
"I believe I can fly"--R.Kelly, I don't know why I suggested this guy, I am not really into his music.
"Fly like an Eagle"--SEAL.

If they get back OK:

The Galaxy Song MPFC

If not:

Like a Surgeon "Weird" Al Yankovic

If they don't get back OK:

Another One Bites the Dust, by Queen, might be appropriate.

A Whole New World from Aladdin might be good, but I'd like a little more energy before take-off.

Branson is paying?

well, yes.. he is paying to build the plane and the ship, and to get it in the air.
that first flight will have an extremely high cost per passenger, and he is paying for it.

Set Your Controls for the Heart of the Sun

Pink Floyd

Maybe "Might as Well Be Walking On the Sun" by...well, pick your band. I think two or three have done it. Is that the right name for the song?

Or maybe the Blue Danube Waltz? That might be a better one to pipe through the sound system on the ship while they're in the "space" part of the journey...

There's a plot for one of my adventure stories in there, somewhere. Now I just need the "second stick" idea to start the "fire" of the plot.
Any ideas?

The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour

Although Paul, Ringo, and the spirits of John and George won't like me saying this...Cheap Trick's remake of the song would get an even billing in my book.

Or...if you prefer modern techno...

The Chemical Brothers 2004 tune Galvanize, hard hitting tune, with the lyrics including..

World, the time has come to..push the button
