I had the idea that people could post something unique on a thread or a website to make it easier to tell people about that website, or thread etc.
something like
firstgoogletag
and then, if you are at a party or something or talking on the phone, you can just say "just google firstgoogletag" and then that will get them there without having to read out some long web address.
this meme will be called...........Google tagging.:surprised
maybe it's been thought of before, i dunno.
i don't mind if it doesn't take off; just thought that it was a good idea.

You can't just start a meme on purpose. It's like giving yourself a nickname, or making up your own catchphrase for yourself on purpose. Memes are supposed to just happen.

Only if you are famous, like say Jerry Seinfeld, can you purposely start a meme! Memes are emergent phenomena, yada yada yada.

...you can just say "just google firstgoogletag"...Well, it's a start (http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=firstgoogletag&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) :)

Well, it's a start (http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=firstgoogletag&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) :)
That did better than a search on "google tagging" (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Google+tagging&btnG=Google+Search).
So you have to come up with a tag that is a lot more unique, like Banana Fish Crime Stoppers.

So you have to come up with a tag that is a lot more unique, like Banana Fish Crime Stoppers. :doh:I got 10,000 hits on that. :)
We have to be careful here. We want to make sure that it's not just an ordinary idea :)

You can always find an outdated expression or word and be the only one using it.
"This website is so out of this world, it's totally Sputnik!"
(In this case "Totally Sputnik", in 1957 some people used it as an adjective, which never caught on.)

(In this case "Totally Sputnik", in 1957 some people used it as an adjective, which never caught on.)"Sputnik" as an adjective is actually still with us, albeit only in one specialist use. There's a thing called a "Sputnik double" in bridge: "a take-out double of a suit overcall of one's partner's opening bid", if that enlightens anyone. :)

By the way, I'm a little upset at having missed this idea myself.
A couple of times in the last few years I've been able to successfully direct people to some page or other by suggesting they Google a rare combination of words that I knew featured on the page: "I can't give you a URL but try searching on 'Hutchison', 'bezoar' and 'Orellana'," or some such thing.

So you have to come up with a tag that is a lot more unique, like Banana Fish Crime Stoppers.
you have to take out the spaces though.

Your search - BananaFishCrimeStoppers - did not match any documents

There was an article about this on the radio program "Future Tense"
this morning. It named two websites. Of course I forget what the
URLs were :) :) :)

Funny, and here I thought "ToSeeked" fit the bill rather well for a BAUT meme.

The one with the spaces in, "Banana Fish Crime Stoppers" also hits this thread.
But we may have mostly created a new test of this (http://www.bautforum.com/1131808-post7.html).

I told my teacher about how she could see something I wrote if she Goggled "Totally Sputnik" in school, and she did it, right there in class, and this page came up!

I have often checked whether Google has
indexed something I have posted here by
entering a phrase from my post. Usually
I find it listed after three days. Something
a few weeks ago was interesting however. I
posted in the Amazing Untrue Records thread
some dark speculation about folks using
television to stress old folk to fall off
the twig sooner thsn they might otherwise
do. It is a good way of getting morbid ideas
out and having fun. I found the phrase Stress
by television had six hits listing scholarly
items out there. Then my article made seven
hits. But only for a day! My listing vanished
and the hits dropped to three for a week. Now
back to six. Not for the first time have I
wondered if Google directors sometimes get
a screech over the phone demanding that some
subversive nonsense is removed. It makes their
items look bad they say! Ah well..free speech
but not in my neighbourhood:)

I dunno. We could just come up with Operation names, you know, like the US military uses.
Morbid sandbar
Teflon blushes
Incongruous studmuffin
lapsed bunny
and throw them out and see which ones stick...

Operation Mauve Dugong?
Operation Jungle Snow?
Operation Arctic Fire? (Wait, that would actually be a cool name)

I remember seeing the concept of tagging a text with a unique identifier for later search-engine retrieval mentioned several years ago, so it's not really a new idea.
Hasn't really caught on though, possibly because any reference to the text which uses the unique tag to identify it will contain that tag as well and may show up instead of the original text in a search.

Apparently "Mauve Dugong" just turns up a bunch of diving websites.

My Google result was zero, so I must have simply mispelled it. Oh well.

Well, if you Google "This website is... Totally Sputnik", this is the first hit, so I guess that's something.
