Has anyone here seen the rock band Linkin Park's video for their song 'Shadow of the Day'? The video portrays police cracking down on protestors during what appears to be a period of civil unrest. When the video first came out a couple of months ago it showed riot police opening fire on protestors and a protestor throwing a Molotov cocktail at a parked car. Since then these two parts of the video have been edited-- now there is no shooting at the protestors and the Molotov cocktail throwing is not there. I like the video/song because they really do a fine job conveying the sense of uncertainty and anxst facing people in early 21st century industrial "democracies."
Also, does anyone know the title and/or artist of the painting shown in the beginning of the the video? I am referring to the one that shows a homonculus-like creature holding something heavy on his shoulders...

I'll have a look at it later. LP has a big anime/scifi undercurrent to some of their art tastes, so it might be something in that vein. If you get a chance to see the Somewhere I Belong video, they do some wild stuff with science fiction themed artwork.

Call me crazy, but that print reminds me of Quasimodo. You could probably check that on their website forum, they do use a LOT of their own artwork and collections in their videos.

If it was a painting by an important artist in the field the info would be readily available, methinks.
I see the influence of Munch in that painting.
