Does anyone else other than myself despise the so-called music channels on tv? I thought that these so called 'music' channels were suposed to have some music videos in their content/scheduling, but it would seem that this is not so. These channels are now mostly reality tv/ and movies about music (not actually that much music per se.). Has it always been this way? When did it start going down hill?

Despise might be a little too strong a word for me, but yes, I am very displeased that for the most part MTV and VH1 (the channels I can get) no longer show music videos.

I tend to refer to myself among my younger friends (everyone I see in person on a regular basis, pretty much!) as "old enough to remember when MTV played music videos." To be fair, I have a perverse fondness for VH1 list shows and almost any time they love something (except the '70s, because I don't), and MTV never played nothing but music videos even in the old days--anyone else remember Remote Control?--but yeah, I miss videos.

I also miss when there was a greater distinction between what VH1 played versus what MTV played. I remember an entire day, lo these many years ago, of nothing but Paul McCartney videos. True, it used to drive me crazy when they played a lot of Sade, but the distinction between them was nice.

I wonder how many videos these days are even fit for viewing

At least VH1 still has a music theme to it even if there is no music. MTV seems to have just gone to Teen shock TV.

We have MTV2 and VH1 Classics on our cable. They actually show music videos.

Obviously the younger crowd has much more access to music themselves nowadays, and video's have lost thier appeal. Why sit and watch your music when you can be doing so much more at the same time?

Actually, that's what I liked most about the video music channels. It was a good thing to have in the background while I did something else.
