Hello all,
I am not very experienced in filters and I have been watching the Pliades and Venus converging on the sun. I noticed that The Pliades and Venus are not visible in the LASCO C2 images, but are plainly visible in the LASCO C3 images. Anyone know what the differences are or why this is?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry about that. For some reason (probably the fact that it was 4:30 AM) I thought I was in that section. Please move.

LASCO C3 images go out to ~30 solar radii, but LASCO C2 only goes to ~6 solar radii. The Pleiades and Venus should enter the field of view of the C2 coronagraph in a few days. I couldn't find a description of what filters are used in the "real time" images on the LASCO homepage (http://lasco-www.nrl.navy.mil/), or on SOHO's website (http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realtime/image-description.html), but you might have more luck. But both Venus and the Pleiades should be visible when they come into the field.
