Bad situation. Apparently officials haven't yet pinpointed THE source of the outbreak. Only 3 types of tomatoes were warned about ... but of course the public is confused, and so all tomatoes are being avoided. $44 million worth of tomatoes will start rotting in their crates if they're not shipped within 4 days. :(
Went to the store last evening and stocked up on tomato and tomato-based products: Canned whole, sauce, diced, ketchup, soup.

I only buy from our local farmers market! Supporting the local gardener and fresh, organic veggies.

That's a very good idea [why didn't that occur to me??]. :) We have a farmer's market which meets two days per week; unfortunately I have long work hours. But I should try and make the effort...or send my spouse.
The local organic store always has tomatoes, but they're overpriced (on just about everything).
But still, I needed to stock up on ketchup and pizza sauce. ;)

We have a farmers market on Saturday. It's within walking distance from my house.
In a very strange twist, I got a store coupon from Target last night for a dollar off Tomatoes, even though they pulled them from the shelves.

Salmonella doesn't seem to be really picky about organic or not (though there's a slight possibility that more bacteria on tomatoes reduce the likeliness of salmonella infection).
Luckily I'm in Europe. But the tomatoes on my windowsill will still take a while until they are ripe... :(

So; that nasty chemical DHMO is to blame (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25334664/).
It turns out that DHMO is a carrier agent to allow Sam and Ella to get into the skin.

Last I heard Sam and Ella weren't together any long. I think now Ella with Gerald. Its a pretty jazzy relationship.

Wow, if you read Neo's citation the "right way" you'll find the fruits and vegetables are actually inedible and can't be made safe.
Oh well, back to eating paste.

This should be looked at logically. Obviously, salmonella come from salmon. We know that salmon go to sea, growing and biding their time until they rush back up our rivers, deep into the homeland. There are salmon in Idaho, for heaven's sake! (Better check the potatoes while we're at it)
Obviously, the salmon are swimming up our streams and sneaking into our tomato fields to contaminate them. They're probably angry because of all the dams we've put on the rivers.
The choices are clear: tear down the dams or eliminate the salmon.

And what happened to Mon ? Is he the reason why Sam and Ella separated?

i've read a couple of reports that the tainted tomatoes came from or neighbor to the south. now we know where they came from, so we can all get all paranoid about everything that comes from there.

Yes; and now they are looking for those Bonnie and Clyde copycats.
U.S. searches for Sam and Ella in Mexico (http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/news_article.aspx?storyid=92041&catid=45).
That Ella must be one cute looking lady to be calling her a tomato.
A team of Food and Drug Administration inspectors arrived in Mexico over the weekend and is looking at tomatoes from three states (Jalisco, Sinaloa and Coahuila).
Is Sam nicknamed "yosemite"?

Hmmm... I seem to remember hearing that salmonella was named after some vet or something, but that it was actually some other guy that invented the thing. Perhaps that other guy is an onryou out to avenge that he didn't get the things named after him...

not everything- just the bad stuff and the bad people- and maybe even the otherwise good people that don't think they need to do the proper paperwork before heading north..
everything and everyone else is cool, and they have good food.
